Growing up and seeing pixel art as my first exposure to a nude woman has clearly configured the DNA controlling my brain ... there really is very little that is as sexy as pixel art ecchi/hentai.

I admit the fact the company that made this series of games (name escapes me at the moment) likely traced over traditional medium to get their results but all the ingredients that goes into pixel art is there.

Yes. That is why the "pixel art" genre is characterized by some key components.

• Aliasing
• Dithering
• Limited palette

I really hate how a lot of newer pixelart games mix resolutions and don't have any sort of limited pallette.

This is one of the reasons I love the game Nuclear Throne, it uses a lot of rotation, but everything fits into a pixel grid.

I don't mind too much the true color, 32-bit palette... but to this day I give massive props to the guys who used to make such fantastic games with 256/1024 colors and creative dithering. I have dabbled with the style before but just do not get the results of the 80s/90s guys. They must be using fucking magic or something.

I sometimes scale down drawings and apply a limited pallette to them to create sort of a imitation pixelart. Pic related uses 8 colors from Arne Niklas Jansson's Famicube pallette. It really still looks like traditional art that has been adapted for a limited pallette, but it sorta works for me too, not as good as real pixelart though.

I think I prefer Famicom-style art like this over for example Amiga-style art, since you rarely see naked chicks in a Famicom game, while this sorta stuff was much more common on home computers.

I'm really much more bothered by when resolutions are mixed and stuff is rotated without fitting into a pixel-grid. This is obviously really only a problem in games and animation though. Everything should be rendered at a resolution of one real pixel per virtual pixel, and then upscaled.

Man, all that theory work is awesome. I'd love to get some use out of Zipdrives and make a variant of that in some way, but I'm too much of a casual that I'd probably just stick to getting a SBC and hooking it up through a Linux distro instead. It's still really cool.
