It's somewhat understandable regarding models from Japan - they have rather strict censorship laws to follow. On the other hand, models originating in other countries without those laws should in theory be able to be distributed with all the goodies.

And then there's DA which seems to bend over backwards to avoid having any lewd content just because it can.

Here to remind you that models do actually get updated over time! And that you should check to see if a new version is out before you do lewd things with them.

In the case of paid models behind a paywall, it's up to the vanguard who payed and uploaded them in the first place to check for a new version (or buy it yourself, you tool).

In the case of models that are heavily edited to be nude, it's up to the original editor to update their nude edit (i.e it's never gonna happen because editors typically don't revisit their old edits after a few months).

Here's the public version3 of Kanon, for example. The one in trollvids resources is still the first version. Imagine how many people have been using the old version for videos, body swapping and whatnot without knowing?

I'm making a Hibikase video with the TDA Haku model. When I play it, at the part right before the third chorus where the model stays still for a while, her hair has a chance to get stuck between her right arm and her head like this. For some reason, it doesn't happen every time (seems to be pretty random to me) but usually it does, and I have no idea why this is the case. I don't want this to happen, and I'm not particularly excited about the idea of rendering it over and over again until it works. Does anyone have any ideas?

All 3 of those videos have video compression on them. Sometimes I can pull the raw video file in FLV format. These were not one of those times. I think it depends on how the uploader had the source encoded.

You don't have to import the texture seperately. It should pick it up from any mtl file referenced in the obj. The obj may not be visible because of the scale and/or because the normals are facing the wrong direction. Easy fix is to go into the material tab and check 2-sided on each material so you can see it. Then you can scale it and do whatever else you want with it. Although it may not import if the poly count is too high.

The compatibility issues isn't necessarily restricted to mkv files, but any containers with multiple video streams will presumably have the same problems. You obviously wouldn't notice the washed out colors if you're used to them. Even if your system is new, if you need to watch videos while doing other CPU-intensive tasks, you will find that VLC will turn it into a completely unwatchable mess while MPC runs it smoothly. I don't think you need to load fonts for files that don't have subtitles, so if you never watch videos with subtitles, it's not particularly surprising that you haven't seen the problem.

You know what pisses me off about MMD
Yeah, obviously it's the rules and the content creators taking their models hostage
But it's that it takes one person breaking one rule for them to lock everything down, probably blow the whole thing out of proportion without even trying to contact the offender

I use a 3D model from DAZ3D called "Aiko" - it's in cr2 and obj files. I also have a copy of Blender. Is there a way to convert the model into pmx/pmd so I can use it in MMD?

The obj is the actual model. You'll have to export to pmx because it's too high poly for the pmd format.

So Blender can do that? The way the files are is there's the cr2 and obj in one folder, and the texture maps are in another folder, and the hair is an obj in yet ANOTHER folder.

The obj files are standard wavefront models, so blender can import them. However: They don't contain any bones or morphs. Those are stored in daz's proprietary format.
To get a rigged model out of it, it's best to export the daz model from poser/dazstudio in collada(.dae) format and then import that in blender. However that also has limitations. When I once did this, blender had trouble if the .dae file had morphs in it, so I exported a separate model for each morph, by selecting to bake morphs. The 20 or so models were then merged as shape keys in blender.
Of course bone naming is different in daz models, so you will need to rename them for MMD.

I think the best course of action may very well be to follow MMD content maker's rules with stuff made public (as that's probably the scope of the rules anyway) - at least just so that the MMD content maker doesn't get mad and delete everything from distro on their end.
