Looking to build my first subwoofer this summer. What are some reliable brands for drivers and other related parts?

Also general audio threat

Dayton

I looked at a few of theirs on Parts Express, they seem nice but I wanted reassurance. Do you know any common problems people who chose Dayton normally wind up with?

Cost of shipping and duty fees if you live outside the US...

I built their entry-level monitor kit some years back. If you're a beginner then it's not like you'll know any better.

Measurement mic

multiple subs to deal with response issues across a room

thick broadband absorbers to place then measure, over and over, to reduce decay times of bass notes down to maybe 40Hz

Membrane based traps to deal with notes lasting too long 40Hz and below

Very scarce Before and After waterfall plots when dealing with absorbers, even in DIY communities.

I haven't DIY'd my subs yet because...
>using pc volume as a preamp (you've got 65,000 steps)
>4 separate channels to EQ
>two amps required
>broadband absorbers could cost more than one of those amps
>no known results until you measure yourself

good bass, boats, drugs.. I'm sure they're great if you can afford em.

>since my drive died I had to redo this anyway
>still had bluetape on the floor the last time I did this
when I picked up that musical spectrum plugin for foobar I had noticed some notes in the bass line had fallen off a cliff so EQing gets me a more even experience

although I know the decay times could be much better if I treated my room.

eminence lab 12
500W plate amplifier (BK for bongland, probably dayton for burgers?)

stick with a simple ported box, about the size of a coffee table.
those folded horn scoops the size of a fridge will give you bigger numbers to wank over but they're no use in a house.
