You dont need to stagger tiles on a wall that are the same type and size. It makes it look unfinished and uneven.

You did twice the cutting you needed to do on the top row. That seems pointless, but good job nonetheless. Was this your first time tiling? I have a similar project coming up and am curious about whether or not you redid the backing in the shower, walls, etc.

I have a hunch they may have started from the top, did a row, and then came up from the bottom, which is why they have the small cut stripe of tile that is oddly staggered and in size.

Depends on what you and the friends are comfortable with. You shouldn't be asking at this point though, they really should have figured it out before doing the work.

This is the kind of situation which can really strain friendships. If they offer, it would probably be acceptable to accept payment, but I would say not to charge for anything other than cost of materials if you didn't figure it out before the job.

It's not a total loss though, they'll probably recommend her to their other friends who may want things tiled. You could definitely charge those people.

No. Tile work should be left to the specialists. Too much liability with the waterproofing involve. It's an unforgiving trade when shit goes wrong. If it goes wrong it goes super wrong and it's obvious to every one. That job looks only ok from a distance but when you look at it up close you can see a lot of funky choices made during the layout.

In general, don't mix friends and money.

I'll have you know I went to the best tiling school in the world to earn my license. The average person can never handle such complicated work without mucking it up. So just pay me my $500/hr and get it done right.
