my 1st ever attempt at soldering, modding a cable, and /diy/ in general.

its stereo rca to 3.5mm aux, made it because the 3M and longer versions all cost too much dosh. didn't know about shrink tubing or electrical tape at the time, but I was smart enough to separate all the connections to prevent shorts and lucked out with the L-R channels being correct so I still use it.

1st attempt at woodworking. It's a brass resizing die holder. I had to sand it for way longer than I should have because the hole tolerances were too tight on half of em and I burned it every pass I made with the router

finished result with subsequent iterations. cant find a good wip photo but the hammer with the white plastic head was my 1st attempt at lathe machining

I'm guessing the cable isolation is why your duct tape insulation is a good 15mm long lol

thanks man, it's actually my grandads. He's got a massive barn with the aformentioned lathe, routers, table/jigsaws hole presses, etc. the lathe is a working antique from the 20s that's prolly worth a lot.

His sight was going so I spent a summer over there helping him get clean and organized, and he taught me a shitload of useful life skills

First fiberglass casting project/painting project

yep. I plan on using the other halves of these cables to make a less shoddy one one of these days
>>

Similar story with my gramps, instead he's pushing 70 years, I doubt he can last long since he smokes an entire box of filterless cigars everyday and there is nothing I can do to change his mind, at least he abandoned his alcoholism.
>>
>>984688
mine never touched drugs, but he understands why people use em. He has some based as fuck elements to his worldview too. most open minded old-timer I've ever met tbqh tho. I think it has to do with the fact hes still so active
>>
I'm going to bump this solely because I need to go find the first one to get photos of it, and it might take some time

Just like my old grand-uncle. Guy was an alcaholic genius that learned 5 languages, math and physics even though he went only until the 3rd grade and lived in a shit small city in the 3rd world. He ended up his days owning a heavy machinery shop fixing trucks and big shit.

A sample of the better mugs/handled cups I threw during independent study recently, pardon the shit lighting. Still not competent at photography.

Also looking into cheap wheels or plans to make an electric wheel of my own, but I don't see pottery threads on /diy/ so I'm guessing it isn't a big thing.

First time I tried open mortise and tenons. Some were over sized some were under. All were a tight fit.

Pretty nice, I like your glaze choices. I fucking love pottery but haven't had room or time for it in 20 years.

I just soldered electronics for the first time. I soldered an input jack for a footswitch onto a music keyboard I have. soldering the wires to the input jack was pretty easy but soldering wires to the back of the circuit board was fucking hell. I couldn't figure out how to pre-tin the contacts on the board and thought I fried the board for sure trying. I ended up getting some solder on the wire and luckily getting some adhesion to the mutilated board contact. after having them come loose about a dozen times while trying to re-assemble I finally got that shit together and it all works perfectly and from the exterior looks and functions like a professional job!

I have a strong feeling that even a soft bump will dislodge the solder and ruin my efforts, but for right now, everything is ok in the world

Are you supposed to use some kind of additional flux or something when soldering to a board? the tin solder i used says it has flux in it but even after heating the board, the contact, and the wire, and the solder, that shit still just bubbled up on the contact without actually adhering. it seemed like most of the solder i used just vaporized on the board and left nasty burn looking marks

Kept the plate because my main quest in life is to become a world-class TIGfag.

>dem whole arm grandpa bruises

just like my grandpa
>>
>>988608
Biggest thing about soldering is you aren't supposed to touch the solder with your gun. Instead you touch the contact, and push the solder onto the hot contact.

>>988660

Well, I made an electric violin. I wired it and it does make sound. I could put a microphone on the bridge (not seen on picture), but the pegbox is a little too big, so I can't play. I can play loosen strings, but that's not enough.

Shitty 1st attempt :)
