Looking for resources, plans, or ideas for a DIY electron beam welder. Google has failed me.

Anyone?
>>
How big a thing do you want to weld? You basically need an electron linac.

Are you comfortable working with very voltage electricity, OP? Things will go very badly unless you already know what you're doing.

Why?

Check out RepRap's page on electron beam melting, it should have all the information you need:
http://reprap.org/wiki/MetalicaRap

apparently some polish dude built a simple, but not very great, electron beam welder:

here's more details on the homemade one:

Is this as dangerous as it sounds?

If so, I approve 200%.

Vacuum and implosion risk. Many tens of thousands of volts. Flammable and explosive metal powders.

... IT's as safe as nitroglycerine legos.

if you strike electrons with high energy on a metallic surface you'll be generating X-rays
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-ray_tube
but then yes, electron beams can and do heat a target.

its ok if he didn't fo far as 28KV- 30KV over that voltage X-ray emission on impact is eminent.
you can create Hot Cathode Beam and go on lover voltages.
