If I want to have something that runs off three AA batteries run off of a non-battery power source, is it as simple as hooking the ends of it to a 4.5v supply?

Yes.

Well so it is. Thx!
Not sure whether to be proud or scared of the future

Inb4 he fries his usb port from the power draw.
>>963621
Shit just looks like leds to me
>>963606
Yes. Unless your device draws a significant amount of power (compared to AA battery ratings) and it has been designed to depend on the internal battery impedance.
>>963648
How can one measure the power something draws?
>>963655
watt meter, preferably a high amp meter. only do for short time though
>>963655
>measure the power
If you are in the AA battery range, just use the ammeter/milliammeter function on your DMM. Put in series with the batteries and load and read the current. For DC, P = V*I

> For DC, P = V*I
This is also true for AC ...
unless you're talking about 3phase motors or something

Pac = V*I*power_factor

Like I said, unless you're talking about big 3phase motors, like in this case small residential appliances cosphi is negligeble
