I have two 3d printers (Replicator 2x clones), and I design and print prototypes for my father's company. I bought them specifically for this purpose, but I'm now thinking I could also do other jobs on the side with them to make extra money.

How would you go about advertising yourself (appart of social media) in a way that would reach that specific people who would need your services?
This is not limited to 3d printing, any advice about advertising your DIY projects would be useful.

First, get a website. Make sure your social media is up-to-date. Your website should go over what you are capable of and often means you will need some sort of demo video of your modeling, live demonstration of your models used in action, and the variety of awesome you can offer.

Then, you need to have a constant contact system that updates the second someone emails or calls you. They need to be able to call, email, or live chat you. You should also have video conferencing available for the larger clients.

After your website is set up, DON'T list any prices. They will need to call you for that. Make it clean and easy to navigate and short and sweet.

From here, it is going to be about discussing opportunities with potential clients. You may need to call out to places that may need 3D printing services or even modeling replication of some kind. Dealerships, Casinos, architects, etc. There are tons of applications for this and honestly, I was considering doing this and getting into (hopefully) a self-established field that I could force a business need for. Problem is, I'm not very good at modeling, only editing and cinematography. But I see far more application for this than most and I really need to get going on those tutorials.

That's really detailed and neatly explained, thanks.

Did you buy them or did your father's company buy them? Who actually owns the printers?

Fuck you. This is the 21st century. If I can't find prices online, I shop elsewhere.

actually a breddy gud idea

Both printers are mine.
I was thinking of listing the price. I'm currently working on the backend of the website which should let you upload your model and it'll tell you how much it costs according to the amount of material and printing time.

This. Fuck a niggas site.

there are 3d printing hubs, websites where you sell 3d printing services.

CUNT. way to ruin ANY business doing stupid shit like that. I would flee so fast from your shitty site if you don't list the fucking price. you waste customers time by doing that and then you get bad rep for it. stupid cunt

Large industrial sites can get away with not listing prices because they are sitting with tens of thousands in stock and are often the only supplier of particular things, and they really do not want to get into a list-price battle with an equally large competitor, especially when dealing with stuff like Motor inverters that can value into the tens of thousands, or building suppliers where a couple of cents per brick can make the difference between profit or loss.

Small scale like OP is planning, very much list prices otherwise people will just conclude 'too much hassle' and go elsewhere.

Most cities already have dozens of people selling their 3D printer services, OP is a bit late in the game, but can't hurt to try.
