Hi DIY
My shaper is having an issue. Working fine yesterday cutting a bunch of tenons. Turn it off, go to restart a bit later and it makes a nrr nrr sound and barely spins. Motor is extremely hot. I never smelled any burning electrical smell in the shop but I'm worried I cooked the motor.
I let it cool overnight, still does the same thing this morning.
I'm in the electrical box this morning ruling out other issues before I take the motor out. Obviously I've disconnected the power.
In the photo, the top left thing smells a bit burned. How can I test it?
The motor still spins freely by hand, what else could be causing this?
Found the problem. Start capacitor melted. Leads came out the top and juice everywhere.
How close does the replacement start cap need to be to the original?
This is original.
And this is what the local ferreterÃa has. Is that close enough?
post motor specs or dataplate
