Anyone here ever refinish or restore old tools? I found this ax head in a burn pile of ours a few years ago and cleaned it up a little bit. Any y'all do anything similar?

I dont see how "refinishing" old tools is thread worthy. Not really that interesting.

No. If any of my tools get damaged or worn I throw them away.

It's nice having money.

Inbetween projects I had a go with a wire brush drill bit at an old axe I found in the barn, which I had judged to be around 100 years old, and seemingly made by hand.

Turned out to have a really neat pattern, which I suspect is the blacksmiths' mark. Will try and clean it properly, give it a better handle, and it can live mounted on a wall.

Too bad modern tools suck balls. Enjoy your chinese knockoffs or overpriced hipster snap-on shit that doesn't have the features or durability of real tools.

You might be on the wrong board, friendo

Fuck off, tools are way better nowadays. The only reason old tools are good is because nobody bothered to keep the shit ones. A farmer back in the day would have fuckin killed to get a modern pair of fencing pliers for a cheap price.

Or a top end LeatherMan MultiTool. If Newton had had one he could have invented a lot of more stuff besides gravity.
