This guys asking for $75.
How would you /diy/ this as cheap as possible?
My first idea: strip of addressable rgb LEDs, RaspberyPi, HDMI splitter, HDMI input board for Pi, small program to drive LEDs

Just buy R, G and B photodiode and point it to the screen. Program arduino to follow colors.
