Has anyone ever kept wild fish in an aquarium?
>>
Yes they died overnight
>>
Sunfish do well, I used to keep a tank of bluegills. I've heard pike, snake heads and bass can as well, but no experience.

yes, they started as tiny little babies that I caught in the creek and grew up into 6 inch long cool fish that hid under the cave rock except when it was feeding time.

And then the ice storm of the century hit and my power was off for 5 fucking days and well that was it for the fish.

sigh. two death and destruction posts. somebody post something happy.

actually, it might be against the law to keep regular fish in an aquarium.
>>
Yes. They are mostly the exact same as other aquarium fish, as long as their diet and sizes are adequate for the aquarium.

I was fishing once in the gulf of mexico and fished a pretty and small fish and kept it for a month or so. No problems and just fed him worms.

It was in the same family as pic related, but with shorter fins, bigger mouth and faint blue stripes on the head. Very pretty

Yes, I had a pet eel for ~3 years. The first week I got it, it escaped. I found it afterschool stuck in the door mat. So if you do get an eel, be sure to use a cover. Also they eat a fuck ton more then you'd think. It would go through an entire deers worth of scraps and guts in 2 weeks (or around a rabbit a day / 6 sparrows a day. I was pretty much a full time job shooting shit for it to eat.

Anyways my best advice would be to find as small an eel as possible and release it after a year.

I can almost guarantee it was because you tried using your own water and not the water where you found the fish. A good method is to slowly introduce your water to the pond water over the course of a day or two so they have time to adjust to ph levels and whatnot.

no, despite being water from their lake,, using an airpump sponge filer, and they were fucking round goby. it might not have been cold enough, but i couldnt get it any colder. i would have had to kill them no matter what, but in retrospect, round gobies are trash fish full of parasites so its probably a good thing
>>1224946
i had a watchman goby, as well as other gobies, fucking beautiful fish, paired with a pistol shrimp. those two together through a symbiotic relationship (shimp cant see well so the goby is his watchman) had the most character out of almost all the fish ive seen it was incredible to watch

>round gobies are trash fish full of parasites so its probably a good thing
every fish has shitload of parasites inside
that's why you cook it
round gobies are pretty tasty lightly fried and are considered as goat fish here
we call them "popes", because they have a bone in their head that is in the shape of a cross - pic related

No. He was a female

I've never only kept wild fish in an aquarium, but I've done a horrible prank to my cousin with one years ago.

>be me and 19
>cousin starts getting into aquarium stuff
>buys truckloads of little Wal-Mart fish and a few sucker fish things
>cousin loves his fish
>cousin is not very bright, but is a good guy
>decide to put a minnow from my parents creek into his fish tank
>catch small minnow, believe it to be a sunfish or bluegill
>put in tank
>cousin doesn't notice for 3 weeks or so
>finally noticed extra fish
>"What the hell is that"
>aunt and uncle are in on joke and tell him that there must have been a fish egg that got grabbed when he bought his fish
>2 weeks pass
>cousins smaller fish begin to disappear
>soon only a few of the bigger ones remain
>minnow grows and becomes a small mouth bass
>cousin proceeds to kill said bass

Terrible prank, but we laugh about it now. Leave wild things in the wild.

although many aquarium fish are now bred, historically they're all wild caught.

most people keep non-aggressive species though, if they want a "community " aquarium. cichlid fans are like "yeah, fuck that "

some people even keep blue-ringed octopus or mantis shrimp as pets.
>>

Yes

We call them millions because where ever you put them they breed like crazy and you gotta kill the water to kill all the fish or they keep coming back. They are.normally introduced into stagnant water bodies to curb mosquito problems.

>Fill up old aquarium with chlorinated tap water
>Throw about 4 individuals in
>No pump
>No light
>No aggregate
>No nothing
>One month later there is a fucking million of them
>Transfer them cup by cup to various streams and ponds
>Probably created an ecological disaster
>tfw mosquitos buzzing around my head has dropped from 152 to 4
>>
>>1227415
what fish is?
>>
>>1224830
I now a guy who have a dozed wild fishes. It is possible.
>>
>>1227561
Not him but it'd have to be guppies surely?
>>
Used to have a 20 gallon with 3 bluegill and half a dozen minnows, had it for a few years and only lost a few minnows in that time. I had a waterfall pump in it and a bubbler and did water changes once a week.
>>
yes. frog babys.
i fed them boiled cabbage and they died (it was seasoned)
>>
Yea had 3 tiny catfish I caught in a canal after a flood I put in with my turtles when I was a teenager.
Let 2 of them go after they hit about 8 inches in the pond they were most likely originally from and then my mom gave away my third along with all my turtles and 70gall tank when she sent me away for the summer to my hyper religious older brothers house for having pornography on my laptop as a 16 year old because she didnt want to clean or feed them and the water started to smell after 2 weeks
>>
I'm sorry asking this but, my aquarium is 30 liters, and i want try some small fish from a huge lake.
Will they die for lack os space or suffer something?
