The kitchen in my new house has a batten light, kind of like pic related, and it's really ugly. I want to make a lampshade for it, but I can't find a single existing lampshade on the market for these kind of lights so I have no idea how I can securely mount it or how worried I need to be about it setting on fire. Has anyone ever done anything like this before? Do you have any ideas?
modify it to accept led tubes, buy some thermoplastic, use hairdryer/heatgun and a pole to bend it to the desired shape.

Each manufacturer produces ' shades' for their own product, there is no standard between different models.
If you find out who makes it you can check to see if they make accessories for them.
A shade is called a diffuser, but ask for a ' controller' and the guy will know your a pro.
Opal is translucent, prismatic is transparent but lots of prisms. That's the two main types.
I guess you could make one of you want...
