How feasible is this to replicate. Maybe with a different resistive material.

Im looking to make a surface capacitive toupad. Obviously not multitouch but something replicable like this.
Im considering buying a touchpad from a laptop on ebay but what Im considering building is very grass roots and doing so loses a lot of its appeal.

Adafruit is probably the best source for /diy/ electronics outside of china and malaysia.
