FYI PCI Express traces are carefully routed for signal integrity by the manufacturer and extending them out like that reduces said integrity, introduces timing losses and makes them more prone to interference, especially without a metal case to shield them.
>>
>>1210635
these all look like shit, but yours moreso because you have so much exposed cabling. plus you idiotically made all the ports impossible to access easily. that pcie cable is way too long.

What kind of fag goes through the hassle of building this and only has enough data to fit on a single hard drive?

LoL who still has local storage anyway except to boot to the cloud.

Nah, just length matched within the lane. There's usually quite a bit of room for slop between lanes in multi-lane serial bus specs. If you're really concerned, shell out $100+ for the super-high-test 3M shielded assemblies.

>>
>>1210738

Uh, I don't know, anyone who has more throughput from their hard drive than from their internet connection?

It's bad enough I lose net access every now and again. Being completely locked out of all my shit when that happens would be positively abhorrent.
>>
>>1210680

No, they're just impedance matched. As long as the traces in the extension are also matched (they are, by nature of their construction), there shouldn't be any problem. Shielding would be a bigger concern, most the time.

There is a length limit, at which point parasitic inductance/capacitance fuck up the signal enough to make it unusable, but you have a reasonable bit of leeway before that happens.

Building a case for my PS4 pro mod.
I'm mounting this gpu cooler to the console with some noctua 140mm fans because I was disatisfied with the noise the stock console makes.
The cooler is about 4-5x the volume of the stock heatsink so should work nicely.

I'm going to make my own case from aluminium, most probably two U shaped pieces that fit together. I'll bend it myself using a home made bender made from two pieces of wood and solid door hinges. Any tips for bending aluminium?

The only power tools I have access to are a drill and a Dremel, I was going to jig up the Dremel to route a groove on the inside of where the bends will be. Is this the best way to do it?
Thanks chaps.
>>
I am thinking about making my next PC silent with some sort of watercooling. are the closed systems really good enough? And how can I cool the GPU in such a system?
>>
Ayyyyyy! I kinda bought into the Flatt mounted pc meme. This is my more or less my current build. I left space off to the side for the GPU to sit flat, but I have never found a well reviewed pcie riser that is long enough and fairly priced.
>>
>>1211194
Looks really cool! My PCI riser works great but yeah, not the cheapest out there. You could always try with cheap ebay ones, if you're lucky it'll work. You can also try to shield them yourself.

also, this was my rough outline for this pc build. I used a recovered sheet-steel panel that I had for a while as a basis for my plan. but I also reinforced it with some square tube stock, and planned out the reinforcing structure such that every component would be partially attached to the structural frame

>>
>>1211178
not even 1.5tb. i dont edit, at most ive done some 1080p editing for a few small videos. unless you dont use your computer at all thats barely any space. its pretty naivr of you to assume a nas and that its 256gb,regardless of if those facts are true or not.

>>1211192
theyre not quieter at all since they still have fans. get a passive cpu cooler depending on the cpu.
>>
>>1211192
Water-cooling is LOUDER than a decent air cooled setup. It has way more moving parts.

Get a huge air-cooler like a noctua NH-D15 and one of those GPUs that turns the fans off while not gaming. Then use fan profiles to turn the system fans off when the temps are low. At that point the only moving part in your system would be the CPU fan at a low rpm and maybe some HDDs if you're not fully solid state already.

Even under heavy load that system would still be quiter than a water cooler. With something as huge as the noctua heatsink it would get the exact same temps as a water cooled system too, maybe even better.
>>
>>1211938
>Water-cooling is LOUDER than a decent air cooled setup. It has way more moving parts.

It has exactly _one_ more moving part (the pump) and that's before counting any GPU and CPU fans it eliminates. You will not be able to even hear the pump if it's well isolated from the case (the all-in-ones are not), unless it's particularly loud.

Plus, if you're REALLY anal about noise, you could do something insane, like move the pump and radiator outside of the room.

>>1211192

Closed-loop coolers are usually as loud or louder than even a half-decent air cooler. And they don't come with provisions for cooling anything other than the CPU. Personally, not a fan of them. Go custom or go home.
>>
>>1211964
>Plus, if you're REALLY anal about noise, you could do something insane, like move the pump and radiator outside of the room.
Or go with 100% passive cooling

O shit a thread I can contribute in.

The rig itself is pretty trash, but it runs Portal alright. Whenever I open a browser though, my CPU gets rekt. I've tried different OS's, hard drives, browsers, and all the cleaning I could think of, but it's still laggy as all hell when I open Chrome. Any ideas?

This is my current case. Very much a WIP. I have some chrome vinyl for the back board. Might put some aluminium channel around the edges if I can't fold the vinyl nicely. Also have sleeving for the wires. And I need to sand and finish the perf sheet.

I like the first view ok as it seems coordinated, especially since the white board does not look white. the second view is like wow, tree trunks, red shit, black metal, fine wood, and that white shit. some clashing going on.

Like you said, it's a WIP. show us more pics as you make progress.

Thanks man!

Yeah, I was thinking I might've gotten fucked on the silicon lottery and gotten a bad processor, but it's weird as shit that I can play games and do all the other computing stuff, but when I load up Google's homepage, my CPU goes to 100% and the lag makes the thing almost unusable.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/xJhQsJ

This is the build, and it's p shit, but I was just gonna hang this up in my living room as a conversation piece and to watch YouTube on, so it didn't need to be good, just not absolute shit.

>spoiler its absolute shit kms senpai
>>
>>1211997
>>1212001

I agree with >>1212007
lots of clashing. I would paint the red part of the case flat black, as well as the backboard. That way it's just wood and black, which I think can look really nice. But that's just my two cents, the chrome vinyl sounds like it would work well with the grate you've got over the box too.

>>1212241
If you put blue LEDs within 6 inches of a CPU or GPU, you can pull up to 4 degrees C from the heat sink per LED.
