I've been trying to replicate one of these on a large scale (36"X18"), but I've had a lot of trouble. The first few the glass broke, so now I have good tempered glass. Then the seal failed, so next I will be switching from silicone to butyl. Any advice for me?
There are a couple youtube videos where this guy (he calls himself the sandman) has figured it out, and he makes beautiful pieces, but I can't quite tell how he does it. He made a wall mounted round one that is my ultimate goal. Thank you.
Some pictures of failed attempts.

One time the silicone was not cured after several days. Should I heat the butyl?
This tape helped with the seem, but the glass broke. I'm thinking I need thicker glass to stop the bowing, which will result in less volume and pressure.

Are you burying enough glass into the frame? The frame doesn't just hide the ugly edge, it adds rigidity.

I haven't even put one into a frame yet. I figured the seal should hold it on its own and the frame would be more cosmetic. I see what you are saying though. Thanks.
What kind of barring is this one mounted onto to get that smooth spin?
