How do I sharpn this lil fucker? Its one of those saw discs for an anglegrinder.
It works great at first but gets super dull and starts catching/burning everything after few uses.
(peg for scale)

Also sharpening general I guess.

Why would you want a saw blade for an angle grinder?
>>
>>1206563
Sharpen it with side of thin grinding or cut-off wheel.

Try to keep all the teeth same, do not grind half of them to nothing. Also try to keep the geometry, remember that they are left and right teeth.

When you grind them to base metal, replace the wheel.

Wait, you did manage to use it with angle grinder and survived? How?
>>
>>1206599
This is a worryingly common thing to do in the former Warsaw pact, which the saw blade indicates OP is in.

Socialism building was done with, and produced only, crappy tools - and no specialist tools. I only learned a couple of years ago that what most people here would just call "a saw" is in fact a ripping saw, and it has a specific use.
>>
Scary stuff in an angle grinder, too high RPM and too difficult to keep straight without binding then jumping out and taking off a finger or a chunk out of your jugular.

On to sharpening - not necessary. Blade is carbide and has a heavy build up of resin. What were you managing to cut? Wet live pine? Spray with oven cleaner, let sit for a couple hours and scrub clean.
>>
>rip saw blade in an angle grinder
Damn that makes my asshole pucker up.
>>
>>1206623
>This is a worryingly common thing to do in the former Warsaw pact, which the saw blade indicates OP is in.

Never saw anyone doing it and I do live in former Warsaw pact country. Trust me, I saw some questionable practices(half of my family going back to my grandfather works in construction), but never something foolish like this. Unless you build some kind of rig like vid, I doubt there is any human strong enough to hold angle grinder in place to make straight cut.

>>
>>1206599
Just imagine the carnage when you accidentally put it in backwards.
>>
>>1206638
I've definitely seen that done here, in another former part of the Warsaw pact.

At least we can agree on questionable practices overall.

I still struggle explaining folks that a)you need proper tools and b)things should be done well, and not shoddily.

Bonus points: getting anyone to give a crap about work safety.

I was once invited to a BBQ where the host had paved his driveway with crumbled asbestos roof slabs, with extra asbestos dust.
>>
>>1206644
Makes sense, why bither putting in any effort when at the end of the day you are a third world slav who lives in a grey shithole.
>>
>>1206646
It was once a green shithole, where people made things as best as they could.

All tools made pre-1939/40 are usually of decent quality, and say furniture from pre-glorious-socialism goes for big bucks - at least here.

And then it went to "functionalism in architecture and design, speed and numbers everywhere else". And, y'know, destroy craftsmen and artisans as a thing.

P.S. Warsaw pact was literally the definition of the second world, though.
>>
if someone would ask me to imagine the most dangerous way using a hand tool not properly I would always came up with putting a fucking SAW BLADE in an ANGLEGRINDER. If I just think about it my fingers start to itch.

To answer your question.
First of all clean in properly.
Those are carbide teeths, you just have to buy a hand lapper made of boron carbide (CBN) and sharp it by hand
>>
>>1206563

use a diamond file to sharpen each tooth
or a diamond wheel on a bench grinder
>Just imagine the carnage when you accidentally put it in backwards.

>watch those carbide teeth fly
>>
Those are carbide tips on that blade.

Use SMALL DIAMOND TOOL TO SHARPEN, OTHERWISE IT WILL TAKE FOREVER

IMG_7640.jpg
18KB, 225x225px
Buy a set of diamond plate like this. Soak in WD40 to soften the glue and get better access.
Then use to sharpen

Also, circular saw in grinder is not as dangerous as the opposite.
I tried a grinder disc in my circular saw once.
The higher speed of the wood saw burnt the disc out.

Btw if you are seeing burn or saw marks, it probably means the saw is spinning too slow.
>>
>>1206563
Yeah, stop doing this. Seriously.

I watched one of my guys damn near cut his hand off doing this. Shit is gruesome.
>>
>>1206669
you gotta be one dumb mother fucker to do shit like that. was his life really worth saving a couple hundred bucks on a chainsaw? hell even some $50 chink piece of shit chainsaw would have been far safer

My dads toz .22 rifle that he bought for $7 is one of the best .22s ive used. CZ tier, it was produced during the end of the ussr.
I dont know whats up with that.
>>
>>1206932
Those things are scary. They were banned at some point over here but nowdays they seem to be allowed again. I've heard they are good when making timber houses as you need to carve shit. Won't use myself.
>>
OP here.
I do realize this is rather cringy, but these discs are marketed and sold specificaly for angle grinders! And its not just one gimmicky brand, there are several that do this exact style. (There are also those chansaw ones like the guy posted here, or all kinds of other saw shapes like pic related or quite a few others, sadly I have no hands on experience with any of thise)
I find them great for rough trimming and sculpting (going side to side with it) since you have lot of control over the angle of the cut, you just have to be careful it doesnt catch.
Oh and I did grind few SMALL stumps with it too :|

Anuhow, wheb sharoening it, do I go for the edge areound the circumference, or the radial edge of the tooth? Or both?
>>
>>1206908
My saw is a cheap German brand "Einhell". Like Harbor Freight or whatever.

I have a "dry" metal cut off saw by Makita.

The Einhell is three times as fast I'd guess, but way less torquey.

I tried circ saw blades in the Makita, and the wood had saw marks like from an old lumber mill because it spins too slow.

When I tried metal cut off discs in the Einhell, the discs "burnt" themselves out because of high speed I'm guessing.
>>
>>1206774
Wut? Angle grinders usually run at 11,000 rpm. Circ saw typically 4,000-5,000ish.
>>
>>1207110
Damn. Never had such luck with my saws. But makes sense.

Do NOT listen to anyone telling you to grind on the side of a tool that isn't designed for that. Hand grinder disks CAN be rated for both surface grinding and cut off duty, but those chop saw style cut off tools are NEVER rated for surface grinding.

You probably want to be sure you're using the guard, aligning it properly, using no line of fire positioning, and wearing all the appropriate gear.

Grinder fuck ups can be bad, real bad. If you can't locate the guard or safety gear or you're not sure what some of the above terms mean, don't use the grinder. Get your ducks in a row first.

Once I cut my thumb with a knife and I had to go to the hospital because I slashed one of my tendons. My roommate was a guy who ripped his left hand into shreds with an ripsaw blade in an angle grinder, while he tried to chop some wood for a BBQ.
>>

Note the disc pictured shouldn't be used "free-hand". The grinder shall be fixed in a "grinder press" or howzdatthingcalled.

OP reporting back, so few days ago I managed to cut mtself with the thing!
But only because I was stupid, not because I would lose control over it.
I turned it off and was putting it away, I let my guard down and nicked my finger on the blade while it was still spinning and slowing down.
Lesson learned: put the thing away AFTER it stopped conpletely!

kinda wish to learning the lessons not the hard way

Pay someone to do it. It's usually cheap as fuck. Maybe like $0.75 a tooth. It's something like that at the place I take my shit. I can't remember what I have to pay for a 12" circular blade but it's not a lot. I had the blades on my joiner sharpened the other day for $7 for all three blades. Got em back like 3 days later.

>Get a job and pay a little cash to keep your fingers and eyes, you fuckin dope.
>>
>>1206563
yes, stop using this abomination right now. The fact that you're here and able to type is amazing in and of itself. That said, those are carbide tips on the teeth of that blade, you don't just sharpen those very easily, it takes diamond and a pain in the ass. Get a circular saw before you fuck yourself up beyond repair.
>>
>>1211574
wtf dude, if that price is right, then you could buy a new blade or spend the same amount of money to sharpen like ten teeth.
Getting one of those fully sharpened will cost the same as four new blades.
>>
>>1206657
currently living in former warsaw pact country on the south east side, only ok built things here are from the the socialist times, all built afterwards are totall shit and all good workers have left for germany, all built before are mud huts

people should stop cutting stuff with angle grinders...

>people should stop cutting stuff with angle grinders...

are you crazy? that's one of the main usages. Like my dad here using one to install the sunroof on our Dodge Stratus.
>>
>>1212735
thin metal is fine but people use it to cut hard stone and thick metal without cooling then something breaks
>>
>>1206932
These are designed to slip instead of kickback, they're not nearly as dangerous as people think.
>>
>>1206644
>I was once invited to a BBQ where the host had paved his driveway with crumbled asbestos roof slabs
Did he ded?
>>
>>1212738
They break shit because they are doing it wrong.

I've cut plenty of 3/8' and 1/2" plate and a few truck axles over 1" diameter using my beloved 6" Metabo with Radnor and Pferd (there are plenty of others but my local welding supply stocks those and I buy by the box) cutting discs.

Go slow, use light pressure and let the machine do the work. It's so effective I haven't used my chop saw in several years.

I also mod 4.5" angle grinders with 6" guards to use cutting discs and I run them in my cordless circular saw.

Cutting discs are life and love. Wear a face shield, gloves, and proper work clothing. Wear ear plugs because noise exposure is bad.
>>
>>1212735
What the fuck why for the love of god would you INSTALL a sunroof jesus christ
>>
>>1212735
No guard, not even a handle to keep a good hold on the thing.

You're dad's a fool.
>>
>>1212779
His daughter graduated high school with difficulties at age 21.

There may be a connection, eh?
>>
>>1207991
pretty much. it's the cheapest way to get a chain that is easy to flatten and sharpen well because the teeth are straight, and then put it back into a circle on the disc.
Also, IMO these are safer for carving than a chainsaw is, because a chainsaw is dangerous when you switch from side to tip because the direction of kickback changes, especially for plunging cuts. This is too small to do plunging cuts, and is always use it so that the kickback is pulling the saw AWAY from you. Also, guard is good.

The biggest issue with these is people mounting a circular saw blade in one, and the angle grinder spins too fast and either spins the disc apart or you have control problems because the edge is going so much faster.

>>1212735
>>1215147
Meh, it doesn't look too crazy based on the grip it looks like he has it so that it is cutting towards him, so if he lets go it will go shooting across the car instead of into his face. Begging for eye damage though.
>>1207353
>>1206563
Here's a way to sharpen saw blades: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5L3XekKIEd8
>>1207937
If you do it this way then you aren't grinding with the side of the cutting disc, you are cutting in a new smooth surface with the tip parallel to the old one.

>>1206563
Also, looks like you have pitch buildup, oven cleaner works well I've heard but can also damage the way the teeth are attached to the blade = surprise bullets when in use. google clean pitch off blade.

>Meh

Please see the receptionist for your dunce cap. You'll be expected to wear it at all times.
>>
>>1206623
Thing is there are toothed blades specifically designed to be used with an angle grinder, but they have far fewer teeth and different geometry - specifically to keep them from biting in and launching the angle grinder...
Still scary as hell, but eats wood like a motherfucker though.

And FYI from a resident of a former Washaw pact state - socialism DIY was built with whatever you could get your hands on. You either had to steal it from a factory, completely DIY it or have the contacts/power to buy an import thing.
>>
There is few darwin awards to be handed out in here.

Respect the power tool or you'll regret using it incorrectly.
