I have a pair of old good earbuds that smell like used sweaty plastic. I tried disinfectant, vinegar and two types of deodorant. Is there a proper way to remove the smell ?

Did you take off teh round plastic cover on the end and see if there's earwax right on the speaker itself?
Also, check the IP rating before using liquid cleaners.
buy relatively cheap in-ear headphones and replace them regularly
or expensive over ear headphones and clean them regularly
seriously in-ear ones are not designed for long term use

You might try sealing them in a bag with baking soda for a while alternatively put them in the freezer it might kill bacteria
its only smells

Interesting fact: I had a pair of earbuds that were sitting out on my side table. A few weeks after I noticed pincherbugs aka earwigs in the house my earbuds silicone earpieces each had multiple chew marks on them. Literally five or more holes on both.

isopropyl and a something to wipe off the dead bacteria

You can try wiping them with a disenfectant cloth
vinegar
Bleach

Depending on why the smell is there, it could be stained forever.

I guess one year is considered long enough for them

I guess you like getting ear fucked

Does it really matter how they smell? You're sticking them in your ears, not your nose.
I just wipe the sweat/wax off my earbuds with a napkin. I'd be afraid that any chemical might damage the delicate tips.

Buy some new ones they only cost a few quid

You can get replacement silicone pieces for pennies.
The hard plastic and speaker cover should be cleanable with soap and water.
Try cleaning your ears then your ear piece won't smell lol
