Hey /diy/
I had to replace my bathroom sink basket drainer and I currently have the issue where a leak is coming from the strainer itself. It's extremly minor but an annoyance. I think I've tightened the but at the bottom of the sink more that enough.
What could my issue be?
The leak comes from the rubber connection I believe
You just take the unscrew the nut on the entire drain and replace the entire thing.
A new brass drain with a chrome finish is only like $15 and all you need is some plumbers putty and a pair of tongue groove pliers

I've done just that. The drain you see is a brand new quality $15 home depot special.
Did I install it unevenly or something? It seems like one side has more lip than the other perhaps?
Remove the gasket that's under the strainer. You only need plumbers putty. The rubber gasket is causing the leak.

I've tried both of these, and I'm still getting the same issue.
I removed the black gasket directly in contact with the strainer and the problem persists.

Forgot to mention, I circled the bit i removed that is clearly shown in the pic i'm replying to.
As for the issue, it seems that it might be coming from the pipe that is threaded into the strainer. I ovaled the suspected leak spot in red in attached picture.
Wew lads

Did you use any thread sealing compound on that joint?

I don't understand. You should be able to tell if the leak is coming from that joint or not. Is the area above the joint dry?
silicone the drain before you put it in the sink

did you use the dope? If not, take everything apart and do it again, with the dope.
You should have cut all the old caulking out with a razor blade when you removed the old drain. Then put a new bead of silicone caulk before you put the new drain in. Put enough to seal the entire perimeter of the drain and the wipe any excess away with toilet paper. And use plumbers tape on everything you screw together! This looks so half assed, it's no wonder it's leaking.

Is it immediately leaking or is it leaking after tap is on for 10 seconds or so? Could be clogged farther down after the trap.
