Hi /diy/
DIY retard here, bought an mdf desk from a thrift shop a few months ago, gf wanted it painted to match the room, painted it with bathroom paint by mistake, said fuck it and left it but now it's chipping and the paint is peeling and I want to paint it properly now.
Problem is I've no idea what to with it now, afraid of making a mistake? Should I sand the paint off, prime it and use an acrylic or polyacrylic for durability?
Side note, the desk originally had a laminate sort of finish on and being the lazy bastard I am I just painted right over it instead of sanding it down. How badly have I fucked this desk?
Get rid of the girlfriend so you can focus on your hobbies.
I would not spend any money or time on an mdf desk. Mdf furniture, like your girlfriend, is something you settle on.

its MDF, painting that POS be more stress than even your GF in top form could produce (probably..) - get rid of. The desk that is, GF maybe a keeper, need better pics.

Yea just sand, prime, and paint. Should work unless it's gassing out copious amounts of chemicals
A gallon of petrol
A Match
Some Marshmallows
Problem Solved

Benzene is my power source you fool. octane is just a side benefit.
painting over the laminate was the problem, grab a $1 putty knife or paint scraper, scrape, and sand the entire thing, then paint it

I've actually seen a guy attempting to paint particle board. Fucker put like 7 coats of paint on it and couldn't wrap his head around it.

I hate people that run a business and don't know what the fuck they are doing.
there are kitchen counter top paints (it forms a thick layer above the laminate so not suitable for everything)
