What are you carving today anon?
OP here, shameless self bump/question
Is anyone familiar with NSW forestry laws? I'd like to go burl harvesting but I'm not so sure if it's legal to cut down trees in state forest- especially those with burls considering different rules apply for those in the U.S. Do I need a permit? Or is my only choice dumping 1.5million into a property with private land?
What is that stuff?
Some dramatic grain showing there.
Is the dark stuff spalting?

yep! spalted wood is characterised by decaying wood/infected wood from stress on the tree.

Call them..?
Working on cutting tenons for the braces on my work bench project. I had to add wood to the crummy old table because all the planing was twisting it apart.
