I'm going to put a trailer hitch shelf on the back of the van to hold my generator and 6 gallon water jugs. I plan to put a tank on the roof when stationary to heat up and have an outdoor shower. I can easy change the jugs, only weighing 48lb each because they are 6 gallon. Any heavier and frequent lifting and moving jugs could cause injury.

I'm also installing an independent 120v shore power system within the van, with an external port for the connection as an Rv would have. This will allow either shore power or generator power. I have no plans for dropping $8-10k in solar and equipment on my $2000 van. I plan to just have a power option where I stop.

Standard E250 doesn't have space for seating under bunk beds unless the seats are for 2 year olds. I'd ditch the 2 layer idea and just do beds, but you won't be sleeping width-wise unless you sleep in fetal position.

I believe that to be a couch that converts to a bed like a camper.

Here are measurements if you don't have them. Even if it's not 2014 it should be very close to correct.
>>
>>1199324
Ahh I see. Also, the width is almost exactly 6 feet, which doesn't make it fetal position, necessarily, but still very uncomfortable
>>
>>1199314
I think a solar water coil might be better than trying to heat water in a stagnant tank. I've been considering one myself, but I'll have to do the math to see if it would be worth shorting myself a PV solar panel.

>>1199317
PV systems are pretty cheap nowadays, and you don't need expensive tie-in systems if you're only going into 12V batteries, only for houses tied to mains.

I didn't do a great job of indicating it, but both the twin and queen will be 'rock-and-roll' style beds, the twin will have a seatbelt (when upright) for our nine y/o. The overhead compartments might make things a little tight (currently not looking at a raised top), because the queen bed would pull out over the top of the kitchenette unit, but there would be storage below both beds/seats anyway, so as long as we can pack small enough, I might just drop the cabinet idea. I'm 5'10" and the gf is 5'6", so even taking a couple inches off the width, it should be bearable, especially since we both sleep on our sides.

>>1199324
These aren't the same measurements that I found online; looks like we may need to wait until we actually find the vehicle before I plan further. We thought that the dimensions were standardized...

That is the PDF distributed by Ford, and easily found online. I definitely suggest owning a vehicle before determining if this is viable. My plans are specifically for my wife and I to travel with our desk and maintain a similar lifestyle to ours.

>>1199532
I'm 5'10" on a good day, and sleep with my legs scrunched up a little. We've also used this as a camper van in the past, but soon we're converting it with new plans.

Pic has been shown in other threads in the past. It's the van with it's work decking being used in camper mode on fourth of july.

I think it's going to be the floor to ceiling height that is going to make the most difference. I've considered a high-top, but that would significantly reduce the stealth factor, and we're not looking to ticketed every time we park the thing.

>>
>>1199954
Guess I walked into that one, I should have specified a flatbed pickup/box truck.
>>
>>1199980
>flatbed pickup/box truck.

No unless it's a legit medium duty box truck and then you need a crane to place the container on whatever frame you weld up. Google for 20-foot container measurements.

There is nothing new to invent by way of campers. The best way to get good results is copy success, and if you have to ask here you REALLY couldn't be arsed to do any homework. Wanna camp? BUY a fucking box truck, RV, trailer or camper. The constant flow of these idiot threads is silly. What is a fucking search engine?

Also >>1199954 is a pic of a purpose built trailer for containers which happens to ALSO be a flatbed. You can tell by the corners of the trailer designed to work with container twistlock fittings. Containers are designed to be locked down for transport but are sometimes transported (unloaded) by merely strapping them down to a Landoll or similar trailer. You need at least a medium duty truck, say F450 or larger, to properly haul even an empty 20 footer. Some delivery outfits who don't care about trashing their equipment use F350 rollbacks (like the brave guy who delivered my twenty) but if DOT saw that shit the ticket would be extremely painful. The high CG from such a rig needs a non-toy truck to haul it.
>>
>>1199301
there is really no reason to have 2 beds. If you need more sleeping space, you could just string up a hammock over everything else. Also, putting a shower/shitter in the middle of the living space is cutting an already tiny space in half. You should really move it to the corner or something
>>
>>1200069
Normally, I would agree with that, however we wanted to put as much separation between our nine year old and her parents' crazy fuck sessions as possible. I mean really, I feel sorry for her having to spend her childhood in the bedroom next to ours, and now we're putting her bed on the other end of the same vehicle suspension; I'll consider myself very lucky if she doesn't grow up with some sort of trauma.
>>
>>1200159
You can also do two hammocks. I didn't realise the many different hammock options until I visited hammock forums. They are wonderfully comfy and usable at any temperature (sleeping bags/pads/underquilts) so I totally get why they have been popular for thousands of years. I sleep on one at home because bad back and love it.

sleeping 3 in a van long term would really be pushing it. Although, it could still be pretty comfortable if you have a nice big tent or something you can set up for more room. I would seriously suggest looking for something a bit bigger than just a van. Maybe a box truck or full sized camper/trailer or something like that.
>>
>>1200541
This looks like a completed version of my plans here >>1199311, and >>1199614. This is essentially what I plan on doing, but with a desk on the wall rather than a kitchen. We'll just do an outdoor mess kit and prepare food in the attached screen room.

What is the material over the walls making it smooth? It's not drywall in a flexing and moving van. Too heavy and the joints would never remain intact.

>What is the material over the walls making it smooth?
Not sure, but if I had to guess, I would say it's just some 1/4 or 1/8 inch thick lauan that's been sanded and painted.
>>
>>1200541
I'm planning on building it in an extended model, but yes, it would be cramped. The idea is to be capable of stealth in cities if we need to stay for a few days, but to do most of our extended stays in the wilderness where we'd spend most of our time outside anyway.
>>
>>1200556
I install floors, as seen under the decking in>>1199614. I work with luan pretty frequently. Usually it's laminated in several layers and unsightly as fuck. It's brittle and has no moisture content. Bending or sanding what we have locally sounds awful.

Maybe some Baltic birch? They make skateboards out of that shit, so it's pretty flexible.
>>
>>1200563
I have worked with some 1/8in before in different projects, and had a decent amount of flex. And you don't need much to get that curve. Not sure what type of luan it was tho. it could also just be sheets of wood paneling that they put up backwards with the smooth side out
>>
>>1200590
Both good thoughts. I was going to do Cedar paneling, but I think I'll just do pine. There is a local supplier who spams CL and I only need a small amount. The atheistics alone will be worth it in the end.
