I dont fuck with any MIDI shit but my best advice would be to just make as much goddamn music as you possibly can without releasing it, then pick your best ones and release it somewhere.
I say this just because I've looked back on a lot of things I've made, and some are a clear cut above the rest.
Nothing pisses me off more than when I look at something a year later and regret ever putting it out there.
Be like old age sculptors, who destroyed all of their practice works, only to hit the scene once you know you're producing greatness.
