My audio-receiver is acting up, maybe someone could point out the likeliest defects/solutions?
>Old yamaha receiver (396)
>4 speaker-stereo set up (2 left, 2 right)
The sound on the right channel is often completely mute. When I raise the volume, suddenly it pops in and works well, unless I lower the volume again. After some time, the right channel becomes silent again. When this happens, the right channel gets kinda croaky/static for a few moments before its gone.
This happens to both speakers that are connected to that stereo channel simultaneously. Cables are okay. Source doesn't matter (TV, CD, Radio...).
Did anyone experience something similar and has a possible solution or a vague idea what might be broken?

In an old amp, the bad caps are going to be power filter caps.
And bad power filter caps going out cause loud hums, not a dropout of audio.
He has a dirty switch or pot, extremely common in old amps
