I have half of a metric Fuck-ton of black walnut lying about my property that I inherited a bit ago. Recently started tinkering with woodworking tools in the hopes of building something I could be proud of from some of it. I had been showing off the more unique cuts I had found and was approached by someone interested in buying some rather nice looking (but confoundedly thin) live edge pieces. Pic related. What would a fair price for this sort of material be? Online search yeilds boatloads of high dollar black walnut slabs much, much thicker. Any input is aplreciated. I'll post a few pics of these beauties here in the meantime.

Lumber is sold by the board foot (in the States anyway). This takes care of whether it's thick or thin. Find out the going rate, do the math, add 3-5% for shits and giggles. Don't tell him how you priced it.

4 seconds in google. Subtract a few percentage points for private sale.

Also, I strongly dislike you for coming here without googling. I hope you develop a problem with your rectum and poo leaks out at an embarrassing moment

Forestry guy/sawmill guy here
At the mill, the lowest going rate for straight-sawn hardwood is calculated thusly:
10$ times thickness(in inches) times length(in metres)
Don't ask why, but a lot of the craftsmen who buy from us order thickness in imperial and length in metric.
This price is the lowest we will go. You can easily double it around here.(Denmark)

Why does a country the size of a small village need a sawmill?
>>1194795
To supply the cabinetmakers who make quality danish design furniture.
And whoever buys the wood, free market and such...
Also, where are you from?

Also, I don't think it's nice to go for our size.
We danes, as a people, have an inferiority complex. Especially when it comes to our size.
That's why we took the helmand province task in afghanistan, we wanted to prove ourselves.

>I thought Europe was deforested centuries ago.
Do you seriously not know that trees grow on their own?

Extremely efficient forestry.
In Denmark we brought in a german guy to fix our shit in the 1770's
Then he fixed our shit and now we have efficient forestry.
Also colonialism and rainforest deforestation.
Flip, actually need some black walnut right now actually

Where are you?
I would buy some if your within 3 hours of st louis.
Walnut around here is $4 a board foot rough.
And up to $6 bf for high figured cabinet grade s2s. s4s 4/4 is $7-8bf.
Measure length width thickness in inches.
Then plug that into a board foot calculator.
If you have a lot of.live edge stuff it can command a highet price if it is a large thick slab. Other wise if it is just snall pieces like your picture there is no premium. It is just extra work for the end user to prep.
