Fuck... nope.

I've only done labor work for non-union residential or contractors. Should I just quit now and stop wasting my time with this?
I don't hate unions but it's an obstacle when trying to get a foot in the door especially with trades. This site is in Arlington Virginia too I figured unions were more of a North East/CA thing.
If it's just for a summer gig, it'd be easier to get a job with contractors. Unions can be great but you're right, it can be tough to get in. I'm thinking, if you're not looking for long term, don't bother. If you want a career, then it's worth the effort.

Delmarva contractor here. unions have a pretty solid presence here, nothing like up north but they have some pull. however there are plenty of non-union contractors around, big and small. Just gonna have to find a place for you. But a big job probably isn't going to hire someone for summer work only.

If you don't support unions (who support you) then you should seriously kill yourself. I'm assuming you're American since you don't like worker's rights.

Those type are usually low wage faggots who are rump crumpled that they can't get a union gig.

See if you can become a fitter and prepare yourself to pass a pipe welding test. If you taught yourself TIG and do it well ya might wanna take advantage of it.
Also check out welding forums and rig welder forums for info and study material.
