Any diy alternative to buying a post holer?

I was about to post the same thing.

making it yourself? What's your question exactly?
>>1187078
Jeesus. I woukd build a post hoke digger or borrow a 1 man auger before this. These work at all?
>>1187067
You could see about renting one
Unless you're unlucky you should have some kind of hardware rental place in your city or in a nearby one. I rent all kinds of shit that I could never justify owning like a chainsaw, a motorized post holer, and a log splitter once. All of those were under $100 a day.

Whats wrong with a shovel? Or a big ass iron bar?

a diy alternative to buying a post hole digger is to steal a post hole digger
You REALLY should have told us what kind of floor you are digging into, and especially how deep.

Where do you want this hole at?

OP's ass. Drill till you strike oil!

I took an angle grinder to a 8 feet long piece of metal gas pipe to make the end like a sharp shovel. I smashed the end just a bit with a hammer before cutting it so the cutting edge would be wider than the pipe so the hole would be slightly wider than the pipe. It worked really well in clay soil. I can also make really thin and deep trenches with it.
This is the best type post hole digger you can get without a motor strapped to it.
Just buy it and you have it forever.

My mistake, this is the type I was talking about, I have no idea what kind of head is on the other one.

I have one like in OP's pic, what makes the one you posted better?
A shovel and post rammer.

Well, i have 6 inches of dirt andthen fucking bedrock all over. Curious about other places tho. 2 man auger or 3 point tractor may as well be a screw driver digging. Not gonna do it without a heavey rock auger. Fml

Behind the fuckshack. Anon. Gonna set my hot tub in it.

Dig a bigger hole, spend a lot more time doing it, what is your time worth?
>>1188526
It's slot better for deeper holes because it's just twist and pull. With the lever types you are fighting the sides of the hole to pinch up the dirt. It's also a life saver for your arms if you are putting in a lot of holes since it is essentially gravity powered instead of throwing a 15 pound stick into the ground every time.

I find a gallon or so of water loosens gravel enough that it will pick up anything big enough to fit through the cutting slot. Bigger rocks are still a bitch though.
