>Install a solar panel and a vent fan on the ceiling
>Rip out the passenger sit and build a raised frame where you can store your clothes. put a mattress and or sleeping bag over it.
>store food/water/miscellaneous things behind the driver seat
>tint the windows/add curtains
>since the motor is in the back and you can access it from inside the car you can even stick food in there to heat up while you drive

Ta-da! Instant mobile dwelling. Thoughts?
>>
All I need to figure out is how to create a surface/table to write/use laptop that can be put away
>>
Where are you going to sleep?
The interior from windshield to windshield is less than 6' long.
>>
>>1181266
I'm 5'5''. Again, you take of the passenger sit and make a bedframe the size of the entire right side of the car. bed above, clothe storage underneath
>>
>>1181259
It's called the seat. You sit in it.

Hang a folding table from the steering wheel. They make them for drive thrus.
>>
Why such a small car?
The only good thing about Smart cars is that you can stow them transversely on a semi behind the cab (pic related - single axle converted toter).
If you're going to get a cuckmobile, at least get a Nissan Leaf. Larger battery pack so you can run the HVAC longer. similar used price, and more interior room.
>>
If this is an exercise to find the smallest vehicle that you can tollerate living in for some kind of art project then this would be a place to start.

If that isn't your goal then almost any other vehicle would be preferable.

Pls drive to London.
>>
>>1181267
You will need to make the bed high enough to clear the engine compartment.

There is also another option. If you recline the seat forward, and bridge the gap between the seat and the engine compartment, you can sleep there easily.

Sometimes sleeping in the reclining position is better than laying down flat.
Especially in cramped quarters.
And even moreso if you are a restless sleeper.

>Living in a Smart car

This is cruel and unusual punishment, OP
>>
>>1181345
I'd look into kia souls or other boxy cars.
Paying a bit more for automatic shouldn't be a concern if it basically doubles your functioning living space.
>>
>>1181430
So just slut it up a little bit and you will easily find a guy willing to pay for everything you need add long as you put out.
>>
>>1181430
christ, why don't you just find a husband?
>>
>>1184398
>just find a husband?

finding a husband is like finding a wife - it creates problems, not solves them
>>
>>1184563
Well, you're also creating problems by not just learning stick. It's not difficult. Kids learn to do it all the time. I learned on my friend's beater car when I was twelve. Take a class and consider it an investment in literally doubling your home and increasing your choices.

Or take that same class time, if you want to be lazy, and just work on finding a reasonably sized manual car that you can pick up after a bit of a road trip by bus.
>>
>>1184755
*reasonably sized automatic car

Sorry.

Also, I'm pretty sure you're just trolling.
>>
I have a smartcar and as someone who actually owns one, I gotta speak up here.
1. Anything you're going to do to expand the thing is going to fuck with the safety cell, which is what keeps you alive during a major crash.
2. Get literally any other car. Smarts have major transmission and electrical issues and are generally made like shit, and parts/labor are expensive and hard to come across. Nobody but specialists know how to repair the fucking things.
3. If gas mileage is your motivation for doing it, get any modern sedan from the US or Japan. They get about as much as a smart and offer more space and better performance.

The only reason I haven't torched this thing is because I'm stuck paying 3.6 grand left on it.
If I had to live in this shitmobile I would fucking kill myself.
>>
fart
>>
>>1185416
More problems added on: do you like being almost blown off the road by a strong wind? Do you like paying 2 grand a year in repairs? Do you like feeling every single seam in the road because le 10 inch tires? Do you like replacing your tires or suspension every year because they designed it "for a city" without remembering that every city on earth is plagued with potholes? Do you like the windows whistling and halfway yanking out when you go above 50 because the wind breaks the seals of the windows due to design error? Do you like your car smelling like burning rubber every time you drive? Do you like having to replace the angle sensors when you drive through a puddle?
>>
>>1181430
>female
>cant drive stick
>cant drive "large" vehicles
>cant drive at all realy
Now it all makes sence, your a retard.

OK ... so I recommend buying a van and trying this there, still a relatively small car but large enough to be comfy. You can buy automatic vans easy, check auto-trader for automatic vans (3000+ results) granted most results seem to be SUV type things. Alternatively ... get a house?
>>
>>1181439
underrated
>>
>>1185416
>>1185421
why did you buy it then?
>>
>>1188596
I did no consumer research at the time and just went for the gas mileage meme, which is also not worth it either. Gets 30 mpg but you take premium
>>
>>1181345
>What if i live in Europe and cant drive manual and the only cars here automatic by default are smarts

What the fuckelisduckelis? I live in Europe and all automatic cars fuck ain't Smarts. I believe your problem is that you are a retard.
>>
>>1188648
Plus you could Google "how to drive manual" and watch a YouTube video, then do an hour of practice. But that would involve self reliance, which many eurocucks seem to not be big fans of.
>>
>>1188693
Think the problem is, you then need a 'manual' licence, which (obv.) covers both, only an 'automatic' license (which our OP appears to have) only covers you for, well, yes, you've guessed it. Fuck knows how much that costs either, Yuroep (well certainly UK and Germany) is retarded af, you need a super special trucker license now to tow a trailer bigger than an ice box with stabilisers, which obv. no one has either.
>>1185416
>>1185421
Good stuff this Sir, least you can have a laugh about it - should make this a feature, '/diy/ presents: Real Life Reviews (of annoyingly crap products)'
>>
>>1188702
>needing a second license to drive stick

>>
>>1181258
this is the dumbest thing ive read on /diy/ and that's saying something
>>
>>1181631
That looks comfy as fuck.
That with reasonable supply of water, batteries, solar panel, fuel, easy to survive.

Have a microwave oven with 2 hobs on the top of it for cooking. Gives you every function a modern kitchen needs.
Buy fresh food daily to cut down on storage needs. Could still fit a mini-fridge in there if you needed.
Any generic drinks cooler stripped open and modified to increase cooling efficiency would be enough to keep things cool enough by the time you get to eating.

Vacuum seal your clothes to save a shitload of space. Make everything as multi-functional as possible. That back table area (at head), not needed, you can use the space above the 7 drawer for table with a simple panel you can put on top.
In that space you could add even more drawers. You could move that stack of drawers 1-4 to that back-wall with that method and have a nice long table surface, for more useful.

Make an efficient tiny computer for media that smartphones are shit at handling.
If you are a gamerfag, have a machine optimized for quick boot and disable useless crap, only use when you need.
Use THAT as your light source when in use to save more on lighting power use.

I'd still rather use a generic small van like >>1181850
There's just that bit more space for my junk hobbies and useless items to take up space.
>>
>>1183916
>kia soul
This. Or the counterpart of a Scion xB
>>
desu these modifications sound like they'd totally kill the car's market value, you are probably better off getting an older estate/saloon car or an actual van or people carrier.

Having just looked on ebay quickly you can buy camper vans in the ballpark of 2-3 grand, which is what you'd typically find a used smart car for anyway.

God made Suzuki Carry's for a reason!
>>
>>1190622
A smart car isn't worth shit second hand and the engines need a rebuild every 60k km.

And used campers are fucking disgusting full of moldy cancer spores.

A Jetta wagon has poor headroom, but is otherwise a good choice.
I drive the FUCK out of one and have very low maintenance cost, and no real repairs in 100k miles, except I had to replace the radiator fan.

He also, in His infinite wisdom, made Pic Related.
These come in very handy for those poor unfortunates who tap a lampost, or run into the person in front of them >5 m.p.h. etc. in any POS like your Pic Related where you sit over the front wheelbase. ISHYGDDT.

I actually own a Suzuki Carry (the ute kind not the van, will put pic related) and the feeling you get when your unprotected featherweight car goes on two wheels when lightly veering at 100km/h. I could never drive anything else ever again, my brain needs the constant fear of death or else I can't drive.
