I damaged my ikea table while weighting on a piece of wood I was working with. Would sanding it very carefully help with fixing this, or is there a better option? Sanding would most probably damage the lacquer too.

Please advise. I fucked up.

You could TRY placing a wet towel on the wounds and running a clothes iron over it, letting the steam and moisture seep into the dents and swell the compressed wood, but I have no guarantees your table will ever return to its former look.

Mom is going to kill you!

But seriously, I don't think steam is going to be the way to go... maybe an epoxy filler is the best fix, but it's still not going to be perfect.
>>
Wood putty and match the finish you'll hardly notice if you sand carefully to like 300 400 grit.
>>
>>1178265
Try 2000 grit.

This first. You'd be surprised the size of dents you can steam out of wood. You might have to give it a couple of gos, but try it first. It may even be veneer that you'll have to glue back down with a syringe when you're done, but it'll still give you the best looking fix and is almost free. If that doesn't work, then go for the wood filler with grain pencils etc.

Incidentally, a few days ago I saw this video:

I was disappointed with myself as a 32 yo male quite honestly. I was cutting a piece of soft wood coat-hanger in two to use as a bow-holder for my recurve.

I'll go with the wood-epoxy and high-grit paper, thank you. Paying in cat-picture for now, not sure if it's worth posting once the work is done.

You are great, diy. Favourite board since 2011.

Do the water thing before any other solutions. It'll probably fix MOST of the issue, and then and remaining repairs will be smaller and blend easier.
>>
>>1179256
Seconded. Always try the simplest thing first.
>>
Aren't all IKEA desktops just veneered corrugated fiberboard? I would fill it with epoxy or just accept fate.
>>
>>1179565
Nah, this is pine. IKEA sells some pretty nice furniture that is actual wood.
>>
>>1178265
Yah, no. Putty never matches the finish.

>>1178260
Honestly this is your best bet. Thats was we did when when I was working at a cabinet shop awhile ago. Always worked liked a charm.

Does not compute.
