Sup /diy/ what do you think about the idea of building one of these?
Looks like a quite great way to illuminate a desktop.
Which material do you think the arch frame should be made of?

By the way sorry for any syntax/grammar mistakes, my english is very far away from flawless.

its metal flat bar

yeah

get some 1" x 1/16" x 48" aluminum flat bar (whatever the metric equivalent is)
some aluminum angle
4x nuts & bolts
use the angles & bolts at the ends to attach it to the long strip (x2 on each side so it doesnt twist)

use those cheap adhesive LED light strips off ebay

Although keep in mind the adhesive on those strips is usually trash and falls off immediately. Use some additional adhesive

looks cool and inspires imagination

Looks like it'd be constantly getting in my god damn way and I'd be wishing I just had a hanging/overhead lamp.

This. If I wanted light I'd just get a 100W led lamp, an LED arch seems impractical, maybe it has some use for photography though.
>>
I would suggest taking your fedora and going back to r.eddit with that garbage idea. it will constantly get in the way or doing work. It does not and will not supply the correct amount of light, it is nothing more than a hipster idea that will massively fail, just get yourself a real light and quit trying to solve a problem that does not exist.

or strip of plastic and same hard ware
>>1177605
you can use it as a personal heater :^)
or making panels is a good idea

I built one of these for the boyfriends chainmail work. He insisted thats what he wanted so I obliged.

It spans his 42" wide work area and is about 36" high

If I recall correctly the length was 86". and we used two side by side ultra bright LED strips that have 36 leds/ foot. And had a specified 232 lumens/foot which ends up being 3,000 lumens.

It is bright. Exceptionally bright. Based on the lumens alone its about two 100 watt light bulbs.

The downside though is at full power the metal strip got hot enough the cheap adhesive backing lost adhesion and started to droop.

Grab some flat conduit, throw lid away, stick led strip inside, notch out ends, screw to desk.

Use outdoor rated, clear drying, construction adhesive.
