Some pretty snails and moss might work fine.

I made one three months ago and It hasn't had much going on besides the plants wilting a bit and some fungus coming and going

any ideas for spicing it up?

Just go out into the woods near your house and get some plants from there
Put some water in there but not to the point where the soil becomes soggy
I wouldn't recommend putting any living things in there unless your jar is pretty big

use atlanta botanical gardens mix. best terrarium soil for plants.

Put it on top of a layer of fine gravel. for even better results, use some sort of screen to stop the dirt from getting into the drainage (gravel) layer.

that's it. you can now fill it with plants, isopods, springtails, whatever.

it's all super easy. dendroboard (dart frog keeping site) has the best guides and pictures.
