Anyone ever tried making their own footwear? Kind of getting tired of throwaway shit from Pakistan.

I respect that your first reaction is to DIY, but I feel like the time/financial/effort investment will far outweigh just buying something from a reputable manufacturer.
What we put on our feet can have all sorts of crazy effects on posture, and I wouldn't trust anything I made to bring me anything but pain.
>>
Made a few pairs of geta before for people at an anime con. I kept a set for myself and they were pretty comfy actually.

No but the idea interests me. I have found leatherworking is not a cheap hobby to get into though.
>>

Buy Meindl or Hanwag then.
>>
Shoes are my one indulgence, but I also have a few pairs of moccasins with a thin rubberized sole.
It's like heaven after wearing 6 pounds of workboots for 11 hours.
>>
Any good shoe makers on youtube? Seems like it would be an interesting process to watch.
>>
>>1170740
get a pair of Vasque shoes then.

Best tennis shoes I've ever had material-wise.
They do run a full size too large.

Order one pair for dirty work and another for going out.
>>
I made a set of moccasins once from a kit
Those were the comfiest shoes I've ever worn
>>
>>1170740
if you just tired of the quality, get a hand made from the nearest shoe-maker

getting the equipment and investment for just making maybe 3 pairs is to big like >>1170994 said

The original shoe was the calluses of our feet.

Your first shoes should be house shoes, so you get used to how to shape them.
Then you'll move on to needing shoe forms, called lasts.
Leather is the way to go ultimately, but while learning i suggest a cheaper material, like a sturdy canvas.
You'll basically make the shoe inside out and soleless on the last, nailing it into the last at the sole, and letting it stretch into place for a day or two.
Then you take it off the last, put the outersole inside, nailing it in (some prefer special shoe glue)
You turn the shoe rightside out, add the insole, and voila, got yourself a shoe.
Houseshoes don't need lasts or fancy soles, you basically just draft a u shape with a short tongue attached to it and stitch it to a foam pad.

if you're tired of throwaway shit from pakistan and want to make you're own garbage try and make shoes. if you want shoes that aren't garbage you can just buy those. they're not that expensive. Hanwag and Vasque are cheap shit too BTW, the low end outdoor shoes I'd recommend are mid range asolo, scarpa, and zamberlan.

don't use leather.

Bullshit.

OP. I helped my nephew make a pair of deerskin mocs for his cub scout rip-off group. Ended up making myself a pair too.

You make them a bit snug at first. Then the leather conforms to your feet and they're fucking heaven. Fuck they're all I wear now from around the house, shopping, and even running. And since I made them and they dont use specialized lasts or materials I can repair as needed.

You can get a whole deerskin hide for $70 and it will last you a LONG time of footwear repairs.

This should take care of being /diy/ enough footwear for all you unimaginative faggots.

Let the kids have their fun over there.

If you're a homosexual you could make yourself some sandals probably pretty easy but working with leather like pic related would take a while to get good at I'd imagine. I have thought about it though
