where to buy flex shaft capable of transmitting 6 HP/8-FTLB of torque. from one end to another, over a "gentle curve" ?? I Tried using steel cable from the store, and it just twisted itself up and snapped near the motor. then did research and learned why. but then I saw they use this shit in jet engines, but I can't find no info on where to buy it?

That is a lot of power. What is your budget? You are probably going to have to drop several hundred dollars at least. I know they used to make table saws with flex drive shafts but those were only rated at about 1 HP.

Idk my budget is what ever is cheapest..

this website I found awhile back ago.

the curve is a little more then what is on this, but the only way I can think they made this, is there is a flex shaft inside..

Oh, hey, another thing that was common in power tools back in the day was the jackshaft. Why can't you use one of those? Maybe with a couple of universal joints on the ends in case the two ends don't line up perfectly.

because the curve is fucking wonky... pic related. semi what the curve ends up looking like.
>>
>>1170277
Yeah good luck with that

Umm... again I seen flex shafts used in aircraft. with similar bends. the image is not very "exact" these are bends over about a total of 6 feet of line.. so the curves aren't that "tight" per say.

and the problem is the availability of space, my only alternative option is to run a gasoline motor underwater.. flex shaft seems easier to deal with.

but I'm not asking for help with my little project, im asking for a flexshaft source.
>>
>>1170295
Sorry mate. No idea. Like I said, I've seen them used in shop tools so that is where my knowledge ends. Sourcing aircraft parts is outside of my bailiwick.

>my only alternative option is to run a gasoline motor underwater
Which is doable. However, boat motors typically use geared shafts to deliver power from an above-water engine to a propeller. Is there some reason you can't do that?
>>
>>1170295
Just use 2 troller motors on your underwatter coffin?
>>

>I know they used to make table saws with flex drive shafts but those were only rated at about 1 HP.

i saw one of those this weekend and thought 'wtf, does this tablesaw have a hand grinder?'

but nope, the motor was mounted inline outside the tablesaw 'box' and there was a ~3/4" flex line looping to the blade. i guess it made the height/angle blade assembly simpler/lighter
>>
>>1170315
Really expensive to buy or have made gearing. Also less efficient in terms of power output.

>>1170405
They are expansive. Period. Two trolling motors plus the 2 deep cycle battery's needed for them would run like 600 dollars.. Kinda expensive for a unfunded water mapper.

This looks like a job for the drawing board.
>>
>>1170656
Fuck. Maybe a used one or diy?
>>
>>1170266
Can you use a chain like on a bicycle?

It would certainly apply pressure to your bends but it might be feasible in certain applications.
>>
>>1170931
Expect that doesn't do anything but push the craft sideways...
>>
Straight shaft mud motors are working all over the world with no need for flex cable. (I worked Pratts and am familiar with flex cable in the aircraft world but most are for intermittent high RPM low load work).

Why not just buy a Twister cable and design around that? From the description (which took seconds to read) it's a custom job.

They refer to it as a Bowden cable and remember that cable needs end fittings to tranmit torque. There are many things wise to /diy/ (I ain't skeered of shit and have a home machine shop and commercial shop access) but many things are better to buy and DIY the easy shit.
