Im no sparrer, but physics wise it makes sense. Your brain gets fucked up from sudden jolts, by using a material that absorbs some of the energy as well as increasing the surface area of the impact you reduce the force on one part of the head.

That's the idea, but turns out it doesn't work that way. Brain damage is more about shot placement than raw impact, so if you reduce the force by 10% via padding the result is ultimately negligable. Now factor in that headgear reduces your range of vision, resulting in you getting hit more often, and it becomes a net negative if your goal is not getting fucked up. Of the three times I've been dropped in sparring, two were when I was wearing headgear and got caught behind the ear by a shot that I couldn't see.

This isn't exactly what i want to make but i was inspired after seeing that this character wore padding made from the same kind of padding head gear is made of.

Cut foam to shape. Paint on latex.
