Alright lads. I am a grown ass man with skills or access to people with them.

Been in a lot of mines.

Mine for a living.

YOLO.

Not this May but next i start digging.

This dig if successful will actually never end. Not in my lifetime anyway.

You have the equipment, staff, and know how.

You make a pretty descent living.

You can spend ~$10,000 USD a month buikding a bunker and fitting it to your desires.

Assume u already have a faggot normie above ground house your wife makes u live in.

Ina ground is your litteral man cave.

What would you do?

have fun

But to answer your question, I'd dig down, and keep doing so until it gets too hot. Then I'd dig further, install a massive thermopile, and laugh at my country for being nuclear-free because its geothermal power is nuclear power. I would live in this massive inverted tower because towers are the shit.
>>
>>1167980
>towers are the shit
Tell that to the twin towers

I agree with the rest of you post but overuse of the return key isn't 'reddit spacing.'

>$10,000 USD a month

not much you can do other than building a fun man cave
>>
I'd build a house underground and not let my wife live there.

She can go fuck herself.

Then I guess keep digging and build an underground lab for all my fun.

Maybe a shop too since I'll probably need special made parts.

A big ass yard would be really cool.

How high can I make the ceiling and how much can I get away with between supports?

It'd be a feat of engineering.

Yeah man.... Man must go back to his roots. I'm jelly though I only make under $600 a month. I look forward to the Apocalypse
>>
>>1168546
We all look forward to the apocalypse. Maybe it's just a grand opportunity we seek. Honestly if I could get myself an army of retards from 4chan to hijack a nuclear submarine and then travel the seas looking for adventure and constructing an underwater fortress to contain our collective autism that would be great, but I'm not sure if an apocalypse is more likely. Hit me up if anyone finds an empty nuclear submarine by the way, I lurk hard on /ohm/.
>>
>>1167980
Interesting. How far down would it take to hit a steady ~70°?
>>
>>1168463
All the mines i have been in have about a 15' ceiling and supoorts about every 50 or 100 feet. You can drive a semi around pretty easy in them.
>>
>>1168543
Not him u faggot paper pusher but i droped out of school twice. I was driving a hay monster while u were sitting insife with no friends.

Probably less than a km, assuming that's degrees science. The entire lithosphere itself is on the order of a few hundred km, so there's no shortage of space.

I think it would be really neat to have a underground study/library. You would need really good ventilation to prevent the dust from becoming overbearing, but a gothic-esque high arched ceiling perhaps with hanging lights emitting warm light, oak/brass bookshelves/cabnets, with red leather furniture/reading chairs ect. Of course wifi would become an issue because a computer is pretty much mandatory in a study but there must be some way to just run a chord to the router above ground. I think it would be nice - a relaxing, warm womb beneath the ground safe and detached from the world.
Pic related is a fast and dirty 3d model I made roughly 22 x 44 with 18ft headspace.
>>
>>1167911
>What would you do?
I sure would check the geology for radon issues.

My neighbors basement turned out to be quite the reactor.

Had 14 000 bqm3, just shy of the 200 bqm3 allowed for homes (actually 14 000 was as high as the radon meter could go). But after some ventilation fixes (pic) I'm down to 60 bqm3 for the whole bunker. Since the fans were cheap I bought a whole bunch (24), but in the end I only need two running for adequate ventilation.

>>1169486
Had to build a plexiglass tunnel in the tunnel, as the fans turned the tunnel into a 240 000m3/h wind tunnel.

On the plus side I can test my paper planes aerodynamic properties pretty well.

such a thin line

>>1169491
The mountains weight pushes the ground water ~300 meter up, so even being that far up from normal ground water, I still get it. I've got about ~1000-3000 liters per day to deal with (depends on weather), which all goes down into piping and gets pumped out by a pump sump. So very manageable. It did take a lot of effort to make it so.
>>
>>1169486
>>1169487
That concrete really takes from the "cave" aesthetic, ever thought of changing the texture and colour of the walls? What's it for?
>>
>>1167911

i always dreamed to live in a bunk
like few condignations one with facilities, pool, fitness area, kitchen, and vidya/tv lounge

posibly one with few masked exits

thats just my childhood dream
>>
>>1167980
>I would live in this massive inverted tower because towers are the shit.
And then I assume you use it to develop physics-defying powered roller skates?
>>
>>1169555
At some point the tower has to be able to shoot up out of the ground too.
>>
>>1169555
And use genetically modified semen demons as my test subjects? Yes. I was thinking maybe the motor's rotor could be inside the "tire" to use less space, but I'm betting battery technology is the major limiting factor here. If Al-Air cells get the current-supplying capacity I think we've got an answer. With some ballpark calculations I think having 8hp/6kW to the road would be a slightly optimistic outlook based on what's shown in the series, so 2hp/1.5kW per motor. Each skate battery will need to produce 3kW to drive the two wheels, for which you'd need 156 18650s discharging at 2C for a lifetime of 1/2 hour, 31 18650s discharging at 10C for a lifetime of 6 minutes, or 16 18650s discharging at 20C for a lifetime of 3 minutes plus a housefire. That level of power is simply beyond strapping to a human as of yet. For some more information, this 6kW would allow you to travel vertically at a speed of 8.5m/s or 31 km/h or 19mi/h, and top horizontal speed due to friction would be around 45m/s or 160km/h or 100mi/h. This top speed could be halved and the motor output adjusted accordingly, but don't expect to be running helixes up a flagpole any time soon.

>>1169714
100km deep it is then. Why build a space elevator in space?

Also almost an hero to fly rock. ~1/2 ton rock whistle by me. No fucking thanks.

Gonna dig trenches and bury that shit. May dig down out of boredom and autism.

There's a WWII bomb shelter tunnel system that's been sealed off for a while in beneath a park in my city (Albert park, Auckland, NZ) centre, anybody have experience breaking/buying into these sorts of things? Also if you are in the area and are interested in investigating them I guess we could chat, but I think /diy/ is too much of a slow board to find someone in a particular city centre.

Numerous containers survived direct hits from 30mm A-10 "Warthog" cannon during the Iraq war. The springy corrugations dissipate energy and the projos bounce off. The immortal Corten steel shells last centuries even without paint, which is only decorative. The US Navy has a fleet of containers at the bottom of the Marianas trench where they dock submarines made from containers for underwater replenishment. Hawaii successfully used lava flow to encase containers to make attractive tourist lodges. Transatmospheric scramjet powered containers have been developed into launch platforms for smaller containers to be used in the post-Brexit EU space containerstation. North Korea replaced their old dug shelters under mountains with containers painted like mountains. (The insides are painted with cute anime characters to boost morale.) Elon Musk prototyped an electric container to replace the Tesla since the container is more aesthetically appealing than the car and has a lot more battery room. The mayor of Detroit has decided to replace his decaying city with containers. The old buildings will be demolished and the rubble hauled off in other containers, loaded onto rafts made of containers, and shipped to China via the St. Laurence seaway where it will be ground up and the metal residue used to make more containers. US Navy SEALS stealthily infiltrate enemy ports using containers cunningly disguised as containers. Israel is solving the Palestinian problem by storing them in containers. (Germany tried to solve the Jewish problem using wooden freight cars, but the container hadn't been invented yet.) Donald Trumps border wall will be easily affordable if built from containers. Any Beaners who slip in by other routes can be detained in containers then trucked to Beanland where containers will be donated as housing
