Haven't worked on much. Just got things mocked up. Trying to determine the length and shape I want things. I don't work off of plans because I let the materials I have speak to me instead of trying to force things.

Yes I'm back to thinking about making it inboard again... But since I'm building the boat now, I can build around the engine.

Tomorrow I'll probably work on the "keel", dunno yet. I have a design in my head. but since that's all I wanted to say, and didn't wanna leave my post short. here's some notes. ;)

gonna need 80 1/8th in strips, @ 38 inches. so an 8 foot 2x4 can be cut in half, to get 4 foot lengths, then the 4 foot lengths

can be ripped into 1/8th inch strips. accounting for saw blade kerf, and trimming the rounded edges, I'll have 13 useable

strips, PER 4 foot length of 2x4. so a full sized 8 foot 2x4 offers me a total of aprox 26, 1/8" strips. to aquire enough strips

for the verticle ribbing, I need x3 8 foot 2x4s.

I didn't see your other thread, what is your overall goal and what are the materials you're going to use? I don't see ripping 2x4s as a viable option. Building a boat around an engine is a good idea as far as design, but are you thinking about maintenance, oil changes, tune ups, exhaust routing, room for blowers etc?

I've ripped frames, gunwales and stems out of 2x pine stock and it turned out OK. It does seem that it's easier to find stock with fewer knots in 2x10 and 2x12 than in 2x4s, so do consider doing that when shopping at your local big-box store.

How do I make a mini steam box for bending wood for miniature boats, bows and barrels?

PVC pipe.

Build yourself a smaller version of this:
