I have quite an old knife, it's in relatively good shape, with only a bit of dirt and patches of rust. I'd like to restore it to a good or working condition. I don't have much experience with this so any advice would be helpful!!

Looks like some rust and such, if you have sandpaper, around maybe 120 grit, you could work to get rid of the rust, work up and down the knife, never against the edge- after this you can sharpen it, odds are you can buy a decent sharpening stone at a local hardware store, that should do it, post a pic afterwards?

Thanks man, will try that now, have me own wet stone so I'm good to sharpen it

Me again, are those scratches in the blade of some weird pattern? Sandpaper may ruin it, or they may stay I can't see how deep they are

That edge sure looks round to me. Try grinding it on a belt sander or with an angle grinder or of course a file. Would take forever with only a wet stone.

Also get some oil on the leather.

Yeah, I think the scratches are part of a pattern, they aren't deep tho
