Hello ladies and gentlemen
I bought a Zippo knockoff a long time ago for the purposes of making a pipe Zippo for cheap. It was great and it worked fine for a year, and then the shitty enamel epoxy (or whatever) gave in and broke off into a trillion pieces.
The inner plate that holds the flint tube and cam spring falls out and does not stay in place. Thus liquid leaks out, the cam gets zero tension, and the flint tube is not aligned. How can I properly mount it in the case and glue it back on?
For reference: The cheap knockoff zippo seems to be made out of very thin plate steel
Not really /diy/ but you can just send any Zippo in for repair and tell them you want a pipe insert. It'll come back with a shiny new pipe insert replacing the existing normal insert.

But will they do it for a fake Zippo?

Of course not. Garage sale season is starting, so get looking for a good cheap real one.

>Of course not.
Then why did you say so when I specified it in the OP text
>Garage sale season is starting, so get looking for a good cheap real one.
Yeah, I should probably check out some sales

Because I was pointing out an inexpensive way to get a pipe lighter instead of cutting up a cheap chinesium lighter.
>>1160391
Oh you mean if I send them a standard insert and ask for a pipe insert, they may comply?
If so, I'll send in one of my old original Zippos
Does the system work internationally?

They might have different policies, but https://www.zippo.com/pages/outside-u-s-a-contacts
>IS GREAT PLEASURE TO RESENT OIL LIGHTER
Even if you were to find a decent zippo at a garage sale, you pay for shipping to zippo, and even if they were to send you one in exchange (they won't, because thats giving away inventory, and costs them shipping), You're in over 50% the cost of a brand new pipe zippo which will last you the rest of your life.
I know this is /diy/ but if its fucked and can't be fixed, and its going to cost almost as much to buy new as it would be to poorly assemble some semblance of what you're trying to accomplish, just buy the fucker new.

You might be better off creating some sort of match holder to light your pipes; think outside the bun and make it with scrap materials, but still make it look good and durable.
Pipes or cigars lit with a regular Bic lighter taste better than ones lit with Zippos anyway, and they're like a dollar. This from an ex smoker that carried a Zippo religiously.

straighten parts to original shape
clean areas of contact when plate is in place
solder plate to tank
tinning the areas that will be soldered will make this much easier
hang on. zippos are about $12 USD. what am i missing here that makes anons have to buy them second-hand? are they vintage or some shit

All the ones with cool designs are twice that.
maybe take the spring out of the doing tube, line it up and pour some epoxy into it so you cast it in place? Lose some internal volume but epoxy is cheap and would hold better than a thin bead like before.

I don't live in the US
The cheapest zippos go for $35-40 around here
Any ideas what I can do with a plain zippo that's been engraved with a name?
>>1161819
Do what? What sort of thing are you thinking about? Cosmetics?
>>1161825
Sorry I mean would it be possible to remove the name ?
>>1161833
only if you're ok with painting it.
You could never grind out the area and make it look natural, best bet is to use automotive body filler and paint the whole thing.

He could sand then electroplate it.

If it's a standard brass plate, the thickness is around 0.7 mm with a negligible thickness in plating; let's say the engraving makes a 0.2 mm indent, that could be ground without making too much a mess.
After that you can polish the whole thing to a straight brass finish, or print it. However if you opt for printing, just use some bondo to fill it instead
Can you measure how thin it is?

> use a Bic instead
The next DIY he posts will be asking how to refill a Bic lighter
