Good hiking swords aren't made, they are aquired. Walk into your nearest oak/ birch forrest and forrage around on the ground. What your looking for is a piece of timber that is not only long and narrow, but also strong enough to take a blow and support your weight. What you need to do is sharpen it. A spearpoint works but I like making a barbed spear so I can use it for fishing. Now that you are in the woods with your sharpened tool, ponder a moment. Maybe you'll realize how fucking pointless a sword will be in the woods, purhaps not. If so, keep your walking stick, it should protect you well. If not, fall on your spear and die

A sword you take hiking to stab people with and loot their gear. What part of this is confusing?

Why would you carry a sword for hiking? This isn't medieval Europe or feudal Japan.
What are you looking to primarily defend against?

A gun and a knife or polearm.

If a person is going to mug you in the wild, they're going to have a gun or a knife. You're not going to get ambushed by bandits with arquebusses or something. You want to be able to kill them as fast as possible, and your options for that are either stabby stabby, blunt trauma, or preferably a bullet.

If an animal is going to attack you, if you're within the range of your typical short sword, unless you're a fucking trained swordsman and know bear anatomy really well, you're already dead. You want to disable the animal with mace long enough to put several bullets in its head or heart.

if you want somthing for hiking get a Shepherd's axe - axe head works like handle so you can use it like walking sticks on the other end can be a metal dart or what you want(even bandits used it around here during the kingdom)
or get a machete or a dagger
