How do I make a mattress for my dog?

I've been shopping for a new crate bedding for my dog, and the products on market are either puffy cushions that collapse immediately upon pressure (and thus providing no real support) or orthopedic foam mattresses that cost $100+.

The cost of these better mattresses seem unreasonable since similar mattresses for baby cribs are much cheaper despite being more than 2 times the size of a dog mattress.

I was wondering whether I could make own dog mattress or cut a baby crib foam mattress into a size that will fit into my dog's crate.

Would either of the options be feasible? Has anyone experience in this regard?

Dog mattresses are often more durable and designed to support more weight that a baby matress. I had the same issue. While my dog isn't huge or anything, only about 80 pounds, I still had to go out and spend the money on a decent mattress. All the ones she would use would start to collapse after a few months. Getting one with a durable, washable cover was also important. All told it did cost about $100.

80lbs is the weight of a small woman, so you approaching adult-tier bedding. Even child bedding starts to get pricy.

OP, just give up the dog.

Well, you could try this

>top layer is covering
>then some basic bitch foam, however much you want
>then sand that's been contoured/modelled to fit the way your dog wants to lay

My issue with beds has always been lack of contouring not so much the actual softness

Go to a thrift store and buy some old clothing. Use it as bedding until it is too wore out. Buy more. $10 of used clothing lasts a long long time because you can usually get a garbage bag full of it.

Try to buy foam needed to build a mattress that is worthy... Yeah gonna run you clean 200 dollars.. 100 dollars is a steal. I may start buying doggie beds to make motorcycle seats if their this fancy and cheap...
