Can I build a Langstroth or Kenyan Top Bar hive out of 3/4" plywood. I want to save a couple hundred by building my own. Should I just buy a hive instead?
it's just a box with the holes in the scientifically accurate places and a couple special made slides, what could go wrong? Find a cheaper prebuilt or risk killing hives

if you are set on making your own hive try the warre hive, plenty of plans available online, easy & cheap, better for the bees than langstroth (especially if you are new).

i've seen some healthy topbar hives slapped together out of pretty shitty looking scrap wood, i really don't think the bees give two shits.

nope bees don't care about that at all, they seem to do fine in houses and sheds doubt that this would be much different.
one thing to think about op is that this is the
>KENYAN Top Bar hive
if where you live ain't kenya they will probably die over the winter, using the langstroth has the advantage of being able to get help easily for most problems and super easy to insulate in winter.
