Suggestions for what? A project? Tools? What are you asking for? I would slap you if I could for making me ask this
>>
>>1138552
Step one. Google.
Step two. Google porn.
Step three. Forget about /diy/
>>
>>1138552
Apply your self.
>>
>>1138552
use that hammer to smash the tools and hardware store , then get everything you need

boom, problem solved
>>
>>1138552
Buy more materials.
>>
buy used tools off craigslist
>>
>>1138552
>suggestions
>limited materials

if you take apart the stuff you already have, you will have more materials
>>
Plan your projects around the tools and materials you have.

get organised
sort yourself and your tools out
pinch some junk people throw out

planks of wood make a nice place to mount your tools
make sure you get a leveler before drilling into bricks on a wall.

you can build an atom bomb and a rocket ship if you wanted to, you just need four things; tools, materials a brain and space.

Youtube.

You have the worlds knowledge at your fingertips.

Be sure and follow quality builders tho.

Plan your tools around the projects you want to do.

what do you want to do? wood working? electronics? metalwork? any kind of art?
>>
Buy a variable speed drill.

Buy a saw appropriate to the type of material you wanna cut. Manual or power, whatever.

Need moar info about what kinda diy you want to into. Drill and saw applies to almost everything.
>>
But a pocket knife.
Steak some wood
Mame all your tools our of wood
>>
If you want to go into woodwork, you'll need tools. No point getting halfway through a project and realising you need a $3,000 CNC router.

You'll probably want a tablesaw to cut things parallel. And the cheap ones are not worth buying in the long run. A skilsaw might well be a better choice for the money, and if you're really MLG you can build a tablesaw out of one anyway. I've just got a handsaw and it works for me, but my last box did have a mm or two gaps in it. So if you do decide not to get an electric saw at all, get some sort of electric sander.

So if you've got 5mm to get rid of on a thin box side, using sandpaper by hand is going to take you time, and not necessarily be accurate. A rasp would be great here if it didn't cause a shit ton of chipping on the opposite side, but they still work great with the grain. A decently powerful orbital sander is probably your best bet, because those hand-held belt sanders are typically less flexible and a little unwieldy. Go ahead and bolt one vertically to a bench though, might make a good bench sander. A cheap purpose built bench-mounted belt sander might be worth getting, but if you can only get one or the other, the flexibility of a handheld sander is worth more than the precision of a bench sander.

Get a drill. As a hobbyist you probably won't use it enough to warrant getting a good one, at least not yet, and for woodwork you don't need all the bells and whistles of a modern drill anyway. If you want to use it as a screwdriver then you should get one with a torque dial, but it really isn't necessary with wood. Corded and cordless are up to you.

Then fill out your toolbox with other stuff. Some chisels, three sizes should do, they're probably easy to get secondhand. A bottle of aliphatic wood glue or wood PVA. A combination square and probably a mechanical pencil. Screwdrivers, probably Phillips if you want to get shat on by /diy/, but they're still fine if you're not screwing them in and out all the time.

I think it all depends. There are people that build everything with hand powered tools. Although rip cuts would be really rough and time consuming. Just depends on why and for who the project is for.

Relaxation?
Yourself?
The wife?
Actual money?

But some decent starter tools are cheap from Walmart or harbor freight. Worx, Black and Decker, Hyper Tough has a great power drill for under $20.

Yes the stuff isn't going to last but it's enough to get you started to let you decide how far you want to go before spending a ton of money.

Pawn shops are excellent places to find good tools as well.

Instead of a toolbox buy or steak at gallon bucket, then put a bucket boss in it.

I completely agree. Using a brace and bit is a few too many centuries old for my taste, which is why a drill is the only power tool you have to own, for woodwork at least. An electric sander should be the next one, but I don't even own one and I get along mostly fine. I do have a drill-press though, useful for making perfectly level holes for wooden machinery. And if you're really into it, you can have both the self-satisfaction and power tools by building them out of wood like this guy: https://www.youtube.com/user/Matthiaswandel/

I've had decent luck with just a crosscut saw, cordless drill, planes, and some cheap chisels but everything takes really long and by time you have enough hand saws to do any work you've spent more than a table saw. I'm gonna grab an old craftsman tablesaw and a bandsaw as first priorities. I don't see how an electric sander would be even in the top 10, an ok sharp plane and how to use it will get you pretty damn close
>>
Sorry for not responding I haven't had a chance to get on 4chan in a while and I'm really interested in building small sheds and furniture as a start.

Hokey dokey, you will need;

>drill and bits
>circular saw or table saw
>one large square and one speed square or combination square
>two sawhorses (build yourself or borrow or buy)
>bunch of wood clamps
>sander
>hand plane (smoother or jack)
>one regular hammer and one rubber mallet
>one 1" chisel

Now first project should be to build yourself a sturdy workbench that you can mount a vise to. That will make all future projects so much easier.
>>
Monitoring this thread, I'm interested as well.

My main problem is that I lack room for working on projects, but it's something I'd love to do.
>>
>>1139592
A plane doesn't work on end-grain. Anything I could use a plane for I use a big rasp for instead, just requires a little touch-up sanding, that's all. But why do you have so many hand saws?
