buy an unfilled sack and hanging chain ca. $20 - shredded tires is (apparently) often used as filling, otherwise, mixture of sand (buiders yard/site), cloth, whatever - just sand too heavy/solid. For $20, save yourself a lot of trial and error, and mostly error.

How much is your budget? I regularly see punching bags for sale on craigslist for under 50 dollars, and you might end up spending that much in materials. Burlap is pretty rough and will cut up your gloves unless you find a really fine woven one.
Unless you genuinely want to make it yourself as a fun project. Just shooting ideas but maybe you could spray plasti-dip over the burlap to give it a surface that won't shred your gloves.

no, I mean, goto AMZ / Sports Store, obtain unfilled boxing sack (complete with hanging chains, etc), above is $24 or something, theres shitloads of them - works good as box sack, its like, they were purpose-made for the job.

Filling, sand at bottom for weight (will / should not leak, thats its job), + some cloth, more sand, w/e - adjust weight / solidity to preference.

Thanks all for your tips. Non diy related question; can shadow boxing be equally efficient? Or shadow boxing with weights? I did the latter for some time a year ago and my elbows hurt a little.

You should always shadow box, but bag-work is always gonna be irreplaceable.
