>>1136910
That'd be nice. This was a high school class.. Surprised the grinders weren't crank-operated, not surprised they were dull.

Might be a dumb question, but do professionals use a wet tile cutter for things like end tiles (where they're basically cut in half/thirds/whatever) or use a score and break method? Score and break is extremely quick, and I assume when you get a good technique down it would be pretty consistent.
>>
Cheap oscillating tool for cutting acrylic panels. By far the easiest way to get relatively clean edges on acrylic/perspex etc. Table saw works too but you get pretty awful edges with it that take time to clean up. With the oscillating tool you're not actually cutting completely through. Just scoring the desired break line.

Score and snap is good for large wide open floors and standard tiles on backsplashes. Score and snap isn't an option for stone. I use my wet saw for pretty much everything because i'm used to it and do remodel work so most of the time cuts are slightly angled ,due to walls out of plub, which is easier on a wet saw.

Technically a consumable but still.

The techs at uni have shit-tons of flux and flux accessories in stock, but they regularly give soldering courses without even mentioning the stuff. It's very odd and feels deliberate. Maybe they enjoy watching freshmen hunt for cold joints before the project deadline, but none of the fucking seniors know what flux is for either.

I can't imagine not using an angle drill attachment anymore. Very simple design and works wonders!

This is just a random pic I found online. The generic brands work just as well and only cost $20 or so.
>>
>>1138253
>The generic brands work just as well
Anons who have regular need to drill in tight spots should note that no, they don't. Even non-generic ones have much lighter construction. That Milwaukee is the Knipex of right angle drill attachments. It costs more, but you get a lot more for the price. It's small but heavy, runs smooth and quiet, and is ergonomic and well designed. That handle locks in different swing positions and also in different rotational positions around the input shaft, including flat against it to get into extra-tight spots.

similar but not the same. impact drivers have an anvil meant for screws and to use sockets you need an adaptor. they also generally only have a single small hammer which hits about 1000 times more per min then an impact wrench

an actual impact wrench usually has an anvil to drive 3/8, 1/2 or 3/4 sockets and even the smaller ones generally have twin hammers which are significantly bigger/heaver then the hammer in an impact driver. they have less impacts per min but they also hit far harder. a dewalt 20v brushless impact driver has something like 125ft-lbs of torque while the impact wrench pictured above has 700ft-lbs forward and 1200ft-lbs in reverse

>>1138836
of course i just stated that they CAN work as an impact wrench given the right situations. of course it wouldn't be my go to tool as i already have a small 150ft-lbs impact wrench along with that dewalt i posted above but for the guy fucking around in his garage using a tool he already has such as an impact driver would speed up some jobs. even if it isn't powerful enough to remove say a lug nut you could still use a bar to crack them lose then just zip them off with an impact driver and it'll be quite a bit faster then doing it all by hand

3rd/4th hand (people differ on what they call it).

It grips the cable housing/thing the cable is going into and pulls the cable at the same time. takes something that requires 2 hands and does it with 1, allowing you to tighten bolts/adjust positions of stuff while the cable is under tension. Super useful for setting up brakes, derailleurs, etc.

Not with the proper SIX point socket. Impact or breaker bar or even high dollar torque multipliers don't round off previously undamaged bolt heads. They can snap the bolt shaft but that's a function of torque, not what's applying it.

Pick mattocks are handy if you've got a lot of large rocks where you're digging. First time I flipped it around I wasn't expecting much but that pick just fucking shattered the rock into three pieces.

Adzes are essential for digging by hand. Even if you have a smithed spade, you'll use 10x the energy digging a retaining wall trench using it instead of dragging out the soul and shoveling it (loosened).

When you get a bridge, your dentist will sell you some cheap, cordless piece of shit with a tiny reservoir. Dentists want your teeth to rot out of your head.

Dentists have the highest suicide rate of any career in the USA because their lives are dedicated to getting and keeping us unhealthy.

Use a water flosser 2x a day with a couple capfulls of mouthwash mixed in, swish with water after meals or drinking non-water, and your teeth and gums will be healthy AF.

I'm 36 and half my teeth are fake, and knowing these things existed might have saved some. I burn out my dental insurance's coverage yearly. Just trying to save some guys from my fate.

not just a rookie tool. these are pretty much indispensable for adjusting cantilevers with a straddle cable. unnecessary for v brakes, caliper brakes, and mechanical disk brakes though. but really, time is money in the bike shop. so any way to save time is good

if you use this on anything but cast iron pipes for plumbing you're a fucking degenerate. I can't count the number of machines, bikes, cars, etc that I've taken apart and found good parts ruined with pipe wrench teeth marks

Use a strap wrench if you need to tighten something round
>>
>>1145531
Not that guy, but last I checked they were only about twice the price of Trusty Cook, and the warranty might make the extra cost worthwhile for some people.

Any cheaper than Trusty Cook and you're getting Chinese junk. You simply can't get high quality USA-made dead blows for cheap.
>>
>>1145568
The strap'll slip before you get any real tork, nigga. But you'd know this if you ever did any real work.
>>
>>1145568
Strap wrenches work better if you wrap a strip of emery cloth around your workpiece first, but they are much too feeble for tightening threaded pipe joints etc. Strap wrenches are for very light work such are oil filter canisters or bowls.

I have an old Millers Falls two speed. Love it. Use it rarely but handy when I do. The precise control turn by turn over an electric drill is an advantage.

I collect hand tools because they work and power outages don't affect them. It's a slick way to prep with gear that gets work done and is fun to use. I have plenty of power tools too but that old quality gear is something every toolfag should experience.

that'll happen when both sides of the plug are different phases.

House electricity comes in oftentimes as 3 phase, 120v RMS on each line. Each line is 120 degrees out of phase with every other line.

Oftentimes in modern wiring, and sometimes in older configurations, the two outlets in a panel will be on different circuits and different lines to accommodate for two high load devices sharing an outlet panel.

By comparing two lines, you'll get a voltage in that range.
>>
>>1145979
Never seen a three hot residential panel, friend. Do you mean triplex cable? Which is only two phases 180degrees off. That's the whole idea with us panels anyway. It's supposed to balance the load.

My giant pipe wrench worked really well getting a pitman arm nut off. I didn't have a 1.5"+ wrench or the air hammer wrenches. And yeah I made some marks, I don't care and the customer won't because it's underneath a daily driver SUV.

I hate hand planes. All the sharpening and adjusting to get the depth of cut just so. I own one but in most cases where i need to take off some surface material i generally reach for the handheld belt sander.

You could use it for buttsecks porn too.

You can also buy USB borescopes.

>>1137889
Probably. It's common on US jobsites. That's one reason to spraybomb, etch, notch, weld dot/initials or otherwise mark ALL your shit and watch it like a hawk and never loan it out.

Dental lights are great. My bro bought six at auction for five dollars each. They now adorn our shops, and when the incandescents blow or I get enough energy I'll copy his setup. He put LED offroad lights in his and powers them off Ebay wall warts. This works so well our professional machinist bro copied it for all his milling machines.

I have a little Williams midget set from the 1930s which has 9/32" drive sockets and a cool driver that allows the shaft to be rotated independent of the handle if you slide it back. No ratchet but it did include a bunch of nice angle wrenches too. I had read about oddball old drive sizes before but I still bought it thinking it was 1/4" drive. Cheap and well worth it anyway.

I use 3M foam earplugs. They clean your ears, you can toss them in a shirt pocket when you do laundry, they are comfy and Air Force bioenvironmental weenies approve them for flightline use.

They've been protecting my hearing since 1981, and they aren't bulky like headset style ear protection.

Nice for motorcycle riding too.
