Hey /diy/,
I know you hate these kind of threads but I'm starting to get desperate. I need an engineering/metalworking project to do to keep myself busy while I have the tools availible before I move across the country to move in with my gf. I have access to a lathe, welder, milling machine and all the usual stuff courtesy of my fathers workshop. I have about 5 months before I leave and I've put aside about $300 for any material costs. Surely you guys could help a guy out? Any ideas/advice would be greatly appreciated

That just ain't me man. Besides, there's laws against that
Make yourself a couple of fully functional storage units with hinges and LEDs on the inside and everything you could possible need.
Would serve you well in the long run, definitely.

You don't need help, go away.
Design and build case for pc
Make a clock
Some kinda rube-goldberg machine
Knifes
"Designer" furniture
Bottle openers for friends
Machine a beer-tap system. First thing we did in CAD course at uni was design one, I could give you the prints and you build it

No there are not. If you live in the US you can make your own guns if they are for personal use/hobby and not for commercial sale without a license.
A GIANT METAL PENIS
nah, just do this

You can sell for a lot and become an "artist" if you make some online portfolio. There are always some weird architects who are interested in arty farty furniture !
