Have a 19 year old and a 15 year old from a previous marriage, a 5 year old and a 2 year old from the current one. My best advice is this: when the little one turns 6 (7 or 8 if they're a clumsy little fuck) buy a new couch. Reupholster is an option if you're cheap and can find a guy to do it, or /diy/.

Ikea Ektorp couch has removable covers. One is even white so you can bleach it into oblivion if it gets stained badly.

And if you ruin the cover, you can just buy another one

Get rid of the kids

Buy a new couch then put plastic covers on the furniture and remove them if you have special guests over.

I bet OP doesn't even cover his stovetop with tinfoil, doesn't have a bed liner and probably wears his shoes in the house.

Use blankets etc to cover the couch. It's easier to launder those.
