First time hammering out a shaft pin. Cracked my drift punch in a few hits using a 10" hammer.
Can anyone give me some tips for this?

Thats a centre punch, get a proper drift punch

Uhh wut?
That looks like it used to be the needle on a needle valve, you sure that's a punch?
...is that a tapered pin? did you punch on the skinny side?

I checked the repair manual from the kitchen aid website. It doesn't have a good picture of the groove pin. I throat think it's tapered.
The guide and YouTube videos I found make it seem like all you need is hammered tap. I just bought a solid 1/8" punch. Pounding both sides but it won't budge.

Forgot the mention the manual calls for 5/32 draft punch. Home Depot only had solid 1/8"

Securely support the shaft you're driving the pin from
If the shaft moves when you hit the punch you
lose momentum.
If the shaft rolls when you strike it can bend the punch.

Roll pins are straight. They lock in place because they are slightly oversize and the spring steel of the roll pin 'gives' enough to fit into the hole.
