Any help /diy/? I'm certain that I saw where it dropped but searching that area has turned up nothing.

If the carpet is smooth enough that the spring sticks out from the surface then you can turn the lights off and shine a bright light at the area from a very low angle. Anything that is standing proud of the floor surface will cast a long shadow that will make it much easier to see. If it's thick shag carpet or a flat spring then obviously this method will be a lot less effective.

Man, that is a whole new level of autism.

What's autistic about it? It works.

Fuck yes it works!

Rolling a bright flashlight across a floor is a very old way to find dropped hardware. I first learned it as a new Airman many years ago. Small FOD can be hard to see even on a nicely lit clean hangar floor.

Modern flashlights are great for hardware hunts. I like my Streamlight LED Stinger for that task.

Yeah, I'm gunna second this one, it's exactly how I find screws on the floor at work. It also helps if you get as low to the carpet as you can and look across it, for the same reason. If all else fails I get a cardboard box and slide it across the open areas of floor, the crunching when it runs over a screw is a giveaway of its location.

Good luck OP, springs pinging off into the darkest corners of your shop is the worst.
