whats the point of glass TIG cups?
They look kool

they make weldingtipsandtricks videos even better

They let you see the arc/puddle when welding in tight spots.

Is not the fact that is made of glass. Is the "gas lens" what makes the point.
The people that make gas lens don't have a way to synterize alumina to make the cups, so they make them with pyrex tubes.

ah man you know how it is. recreational carpenters have eleventy billion hand planes, recreational oil changers have a fumoto valve.
recreational tig welders have the pyrex cup stubby gas lens micro flexloc torch kit with superflex hose and wireless foot pedal.
shit, if they're happy and it keeps 'em off the streets
TIG welder here.
>look cool
>allow for insane gas coverage and therefore reliably give dank-ass colorization (very popular with instagram welders for that reason and the one above)
>allow you to see puddle better in certain situations
>can help to weld more unforgiving metals when it comes to cracking
Keep in mind I'm talking about the very popular oversized ones, it's actually the first time I've seen one that size.

Gas lenses and glass cups are entirely independent of each other. Alumina and other cups are made for gas lenses, and glass cups are made for standard collet bodies as well as gas lenses.
Looking cool is nice, but they cost a lot more than alumina. The actual functional purpose is to let you see in situations where the cup would obstruct the view.
