I hate this thing. I would like to replace it with a regular shower head or regular hand shower head with a hose. Or maybe just screw on a plug. What part(s) can I take off without touching the drywall? I'm renting, so I can't touch the drywall.

Okay, I thought the part on the wall was calked on. Guess not. I can screw something on here, but most hand head shower kits have a female, not a male connection here. Is there a male to female adapter along with a cover to protect the drywall?

see if that cone at wall is just an escutcheon by trying to rotate. then try to slide forward.

If that's fine, you should be able to unscrew the shower arm, but there is risk of it tearing at the threads then you'd need a flat head screwdriver and needle nose pliers to peel the remaining part out.

you could for sure remove the shower head itself, but might need to add support from above if the new one is heavy.

Does that bulb in the center loosen for you to move the curved part of the shower arm into the larger part/ adjust the length from wall, or is it just a joint that unscrews?

posted while i was writing that long shit.

it unscrews, you replace with shower arm or pipe nipple.

eta: since it's a copper female adapter there that you can put a wrench on to hold still while you unscrew the existing shower arm, you shouldn't have trouble using hand or pliers to unscrew the current one.
Since they used tape, it's unlikely the threads would tear if you are careful. and even if they do, it's out in the open so it's easy to remove any threads that broke off and stayed behind.

Reuse the old escutcheon since it's a bell/ deep one and runs extra.

Thank you. I'd get a cheap, light one like this.

I worry about the shower arm leaking into the drywall. I've never changed that part. Is it pretty easy to do it right, and make sure it doesn't leak?
>>
>>1118791
check for leak at the female adapter/ shower arm joint before pushing escutcheon back to wall. then caulk around it if you want
>>
>>1118791
Teflon tape.
>>
Ask your landlord before fucking with it. That will cover your ass in case you screw it up. Hate it or not, it's not yours.

Good advice.
